PMR localized pain area

Posted by smoore6480 @smoore6480, Oct 6 10:24am

When I first experienced pain it was mainly in my thighs and buttocks area. Started at 20 mg prednisone which allowed a lot of relief. At some Points I had a hard time getting out of bed or driving a car. Then it started in the shoulders but for some reason the legs and thighs are fine now. Every morning I experience sever shoulder pain and as the day progresses it gets a little better. Then rinse and repeat. Doing 5 mg at night 10 in the AM. Plan on doing for a month then go to 12-3 for a month then 10 for a month. See how we go from there. Has anyone else had relief in one area and not the other? Shoulder pain does not allow any golf but good legs allow walking. Strange.

Omg this sounds like me . I’m never sure which will hurt . I’m now on 7.5 from 15 and every time I go down a level it hurts even more for a few days . I’m bearing with it as desperate to get off steroids as I hate the side affects . I’m assuming it’s withdrawal and my body needs time to adjust each time I drop as after a few days it eases .

I’m like you my shoulder pain is more persistent but sometimes it’s both . Sleep is had as I can’t sleep on my back and hurts to sleep on my side

I have shoulder pain that has not gone away with prednisone, but it's due to severe osteoarthritis. I need a shoulder replacement.

Hmmm...just read this, today. I'm down to 5mg as of two days ago and have experienced stiffness and soreness in the right wrist, only, has been going on for the last 3 weeks or so. Mine, too, subsides through the day. When I saw him 2 days ago, rheumatologist didn't think it was related to the PMR. Now, I'm not so sure. He ordered X-rays and I see him for a follow up in a week and a half. I was tempted to see my hand specialist to get a cortisone shot in the wrist and I've moved my trackball mouse to the left side (awkward), because mousing with the right hand, puts my right wrist right where the pain is. I'll watch this thread to see others' developments.

Can only take 7mg of prednisone as I have Afib, so I added Actemra. It took over a year to get diagnosed. I experience intense fatigue as sleeping through the night is impossible. Any suggestions?

I developed intense hand and wrist pain in both hands simultaneously. It has to be related. My rheumy says no, as does yrs. Frustrating. I'm on a blog out of UK, and many say it is related to PMR

I had wrist and thumb pain in the mornings when tapering between 10 and 5. It usually abated quite a bit by the afternoon. Xray showed mild osteoarthritis.
I am now down to 2.5 and no longer have those issues.
Hang in there…it might disappear on its own, as it did with me.

Xrays from multiple angles shows no such evidence of osteoarthritis, soft tissue abnormalities, or fracture. It does dissipate some through the day, but is back with a vengeance in the a.m.
