PMR and Sciatica in leg
I am an active 72 year old female. Weights and cardio at the gym 3+ and 20 miles walking a week. February 2025 I discovered that it was time to adjust to lighter weights and low impact cardio to avoid sciatic pain in left leg (deformed sciatic nerve / fomarol stenosis). L2 L3 L5 are a bit thin but my back and neck really didn't bother me. In August 2025 classic symmetrical neck stiffness, shoulder pain and butt pain appeared. My blood work was normal but after ruling everything out PMR was the diagnosis. I just finished two weeks of 10 mg prednisone daily and now on 7.5 a day. My neck and right shoulder have been making "sounds" for many years which I've always thought are normal aging of my body. It seems to me that there might be some connection with sciatic nerve issue and PMR. I know taking the steroids is important but also very curious to see if I can managed eventually with just an occasional Advil. Now the sciatica numbness in left leg I have is probably being masked by the steroids. Of course the more I move the better I feel. Has anyone had this combination? I have learned so much from this group. Thank you.

The sciatic pain started when I was diagnosed with PMR in 2023. Prednisone helped tremendously in the beginning, but at a low dose, it does nothing for sciatica. I’m suffering with sciatic pain continuously, even exercise doesn’t help.
