PMR and increased pressure in left ventrical in heart
I was started on 20mg prednisone on January 21st this year. I went to the ER on March 14th with chest pain and shortness of breath. They found I have pulmonary hypertension and recommended a battery of tests. I failed my nuclear stress test and had to have a heart cath. I've been diagnosed with HFpEF, or heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, is a type of heart failure where the heart pumps blood normally but is unable to properly fill with blood during the relaxation phase.
Today's Cardiology visit we discussed how the prednisone is affecting my heart. Because of the retained fluids caused by the Pred, it's affecting my heart! I just started Lasix yesterday, and she wants to put me on Farxiga. Unfortunately, I can't afford $800/month on my Medicare (my cost). My cardiologist said I look completely different than I did just a month ago when I saw her. (I'm a balloon!)
I'm down to 12.5mg of pred, and my pain is beginning to scream in my hips and shoulders.
What is worse, living with crippling pain, or letting the prednisone destroy my heart? I received my FIFTH referral to Rheumatology today, but no one within 200 miles is accepting new patients. I honestly don't know what to do?
Words of encouragement??????
Terri

Terri @rocksology, I'm sorry to hear about the prednisone effecting your heart and causing additional problems. @dadcue started another discussion and shared an article on what I think sounds a lot like your symptoms.

Are you able to discuss alternatives to the prednisone to treat your PMR with your doctor or rheumatologist?
In reply to Terri @rocksology:
Drug companies often advertise that they help with the cost of their drugs. You might look into that as regards farxiga. Good luck.
