PMR 2ys and 4mos. Tapering to 1.5mg
PMR started Feb. 2022. Having had a flare up at 6mg (Sept. 2022 while tapering by 1mg/month) I then was put back to 15mg for one month then 10mg for one month and restarted the tapering by 1mg/month. Because my body felt like it was being weaned too quickly, I stretched the one month to one and a half to 2 months. This seemed to work better. I had less PMR pain when I tapered down. I still have hot flashes, chills, fatigue, and joint pain mostly in the afternoon with less intensity on the lower dosages. I'm sure it's mostly Prednisone withdrawal. In these last 5 months I've not had the classic PMR pain in my hips, shoulders, and arms. Also noticing improved recovery time after physical exertion. Less insomnia and I can accomplish more yardwork with less side effects. I feel like I'm at 60% physically of where I was before PMR showed up. An add-on that has been undesirably uncomfortable is when I was getting down to around 7 mg I started experiencing flare-ups of my Diverticulitis about 2 to three weeks into each drop in Prednisone. They're becoming less painful at these lower doses. They also seem to be proportional to the level of physical exertion. I've done the best I could to create a better diet. Had to watch my caffeine intake.
I honestly don't think I would be having the progress that I'm experiencing now without the help from those of you in this support group. Your collective knowledge and experience have been incredibly helpful. Thank you.
Pressing forward. Hoping for the best.
Ernie
