Please please please help - it's been three months of suffering
For three months, I've been on and off sick, with heavy congestion and constant yellow-green mucus. Every once in a while, I'd get a sore throat and a cough. My hearing was always getting blocked. I took antibiotics for one week, and it got a bit better for a while.
Recently, things have taken a turn for the worse. My whole face radiates with pain, my teeth are extremely sensitive, my sore throat is really bad, I can't smell anything even really, really strong perfume, and my congestion makes me wake up over ten times a night. I can't sleep at all. The GP/family doctor I went to told me that it's probably just a recurring infection and not to worry about it. But it's been THREE months of this and I'm so exhausted. I nearly lost it when she told me that.
I am so tired. Please help me. What is this stupid illness afflicting me, and what should I do?! My suspicions are something to do with the sinuses, but then the antibiotics would have cleared it completely...

See an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. It may be that you were given the wrong antibiotic or did not have long enough course. Ask that the drainage be cultured so they can give you an antibiotic that will work. Then get a new GP that doesn't tell you not to worry about those symptoms.
Thank you so much. I really hope it works.
@izip7
warm salt water gargle.
Breathe in warm steam.
BUY, NOT MAKE YOURSELF, salt water nasal spray.
(TAP WATER IS DANGEROUS TO PUT IN YOUR NASAL CAVITY)
You may have a virus infection. Antibiotics do not cure virus.
Hope you feel better soon
I had a similar experience that my PCP downplayed for months. It was only the left side but I was having yellow green drainage constantly, not sleeping, in pain. I also went to urgent care because he wouldn’t prescribe antibiotics and steroids. Finally, another Dr. was covering his patients when I sent a message that it had been unresponsive to antibiotics and she ordered a CT scan. I got a referral to a rhinologist(ENT specializing in sinus) and was told I needed surgery. Also, the infection was from a tooth root. Sinus surgery and a root canal fixed me up! You need to get some specialists on your team.
izip7, I would definitely see an ENT doctor. It sounds like you have a sinus infection that needs further
treatment.
Have you tried irrigating your sinuses with the NeilMed Sinus rinse? It helps to cleanse the sinus.
Allergies have been hard this year and they promote sinus infections if you are allergic.
Praying for you and & I empathize. Blessings & Prayers....
You absolutely need a new physician! Would not be irrigating sinuses especially when it may appear that you have an infection brewing! Too easy to introduce more complications! x-rays should reveal something if that is the problem. Not keen on ENT but try them then specialist from there. Are you near a big teaching hospital where they perhaps will take more interest in your condition. You must be miserable. So sorry. Hope you find relief soon!
Thanks everyone for all their suggestions - before I try anything myself I’m scheduling an appointment with an ENT ASAP. This really has gone on for too long 🫠🫠 I’m so grateful that I’ve got something actionable now.
