What are treatment options for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer?
Hi, My wife was diagnosed with Stage IV High Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer in May 2024. After debulking and 7 chemotherapy sessions she had her cancer in remission in Jan 2025. First follow-up tests, CT Scan and bloodwork, CA-125 at 70 in April 2025 indicates the cancer has reoccurred. We see the GYN Oncologist tomorrow. Has anyone had any experience with platinum resistant cancer recently had new therapy drugs or clinic trails in SW Michigan to fight the reoccurrence? I’m trying to find best treatment options for my wife. Thank you.

@leftybarb I had another PET CT scan in September that showed it has returned, maybe even in the chest cavity which is unusual. I also have sarcoidosis ... I had biopsies done of the lymph nodes in my chest last Friday, where the doctor went through the esophagus to get to them! My oncologist wants me to have another scan in November, and then I'll start the next round of chemotherapy after that ... probably on 12th December. This time it is gemcitabine and carboplatin. This is the ninth time I will be going through chemo. My oncologist calls me his "Champion"! I have also been asked to recount my journey at an Oncology Conference on the 21st November as well! I have alot to say!! I have gone through more than just the chemo as well. I've had a Whipple's procedure too, which was very drastic!
I don't look unwell. I love shocking people with my history. I also have a very large support network that has allowed me to keep teaching throughout my treatment, when I have been able. I am very appreciative of every day that I get!

1 Reaction@cookercooker Enhertu might be candidate if: Confirm HER2 status of the tumor (by IHC/ISH) — ideally centrally reviewed; look for IHC 3+ (or 2+ with ISH amplification) if considering benefit from T-DXd. Data suggest the best responses in IHC 3+ tumors.

1 Reaction@lv67 yes tumor tested, her FRa expression is 75% so next line of treatment will be Elahere.

1 Reaction@cookercooker not yet, Elahere is her next line (3rd line), her FRa expression is 75%, which means it has very good chance or working, overall survivability on Elahere is about 17 months.

Did you get your tumors tested? That can open up other treatments such as Keytruda. Maybe get a 2nd opinion from one of the large treatment hospitals or look into clinical trials. Are you a candidate for another surgery or radiation therapy?

1 ReactionI have never been told that there are no options left by my oncologist. I have lived with ovarian cancer for more than 15 years! I have had Caelyx since being platinum resistant. I am about to start a course of treatment with Gemcitabine. I have been told there are other drugs that I can have after that.
When I was first diagnosed a friend gave me a copy of a devotional they had read. It said that you are immortal until you have fulfilled the purpose that God created you for. I have asked God to take me home many times. He keeps saying no. I still have things to do here on earth. “His grace is sufficient for me. His power is displayed in my weakness.” Don’t trust in science. It’s not as dependable as a faithful God, who loves you.
