@flaredhead

My husband had the PRP shot in his right knee in February of this year. The clinic he went to specializes in PRP treatment; that's all they do. He was impressed by their expertise and their procedure: First, they gave him 3 hyaluronic acids shots in his knee--each one a week apart. Those were covered by insurance (Medicare). Then they did the PRP shot, which was not covered by insurance. He did some research prior to the shots and learned that different doctors charge different prices for PRP shots, so you may want to shop around. He has experienced great relief from the PRP shot. However, I will emphasize that his knee was not bone-on-bone. He still had some cartilage in his knee, and I think that is key. The PRP helps to regenerate cartilage. If you don't have any left, the shot is less likely to work. I have two family members who also tried PRP shots. One of them got relief in their knee, but the other did not--the joint was too far gone. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for you input. I haven't had any recent x-ray's, so do not know if there is any cartilage left in either knee. Guess I should determine if there is any cartilage prior to proceeding with the procedure.

Yes, I checked and determined that the cost is covered.
