plantar plate tear remedy??

Posted by audreytwo @audreytwo, Jun 20, 2023

Has anyone had experience with surgery or any other remedy or therapy for plantar plate tear. My Orthopedist Dr. says if I don't get surgery the second toe (which has a plantar plate tear) will tear the next one and down on the line to all of them.?

Hi @audreytwo, I think I might get a second opinion if it were me and I had concerns on the need of surgery. Here's a fairly recent article from Dec 2022 that talks about the procedure and another on therapy that might be helpful while you wait for others with experience to respond.

Did you discuss any non-surgical treatments with you orthopedist?

Thank you very much; that is so helpful and hopeful. He said there were no other options and if I didn't have the surgery, the toe that is torn would tear the one next to it and so on down the line until I was crippled. At 76, I didn't think I could be the 6 weeks no weight bearing so I am wearing Zentoes in hopes that that will prevent further tearing. (so far so good). Thanks so much for those excellent references and your time.
