Physical Therapists/Margaret Martin

Posted by detective10 @detective10, Jan 6 6:24pm

I was recently diagnosed with a slight compression fracture at L1 and L2. I am going to confer with a physical therapist near my residence to try and avoid additional fractures, and to be able to exercise safely. I would like to work with Margaret Martin, but her appointments are virtual, which is not the same as being in person. Have any of you worked with Margaret online, or in conjunction with a physical therapist near you?

Thanks in advance for your assistance and time - much appreciated. And, Happy Near Year!

I believe they are just available on her website. It's possible you could connect to your tv, I never tried. They are just short demonstrations of exercises, not the a whole set of exercises. She does have a few short classes on YouTube. Good luck!

Margaret Martin is known for being particularly careful about form and
exercising safely. She asks you to self assess your exercise level,
taking into account fracture risk. Then you start the exercises at the
appropriate level. I haven't seen the book about compression fractures but
I think you'd find this book would be a useful addition to that one. Good
luck!!

@sonodeka, there is no book on compression fractures. From your comments above, it appears that the "Exercise for Better Bones" doesn't specifically address compression fractures. If I'm incorrect, please let me know, and thanks for your help!

@mundy, which Margaret Martin book(s) did you purchase? And, were you able to work through the exercises on your own? I am thinking of purchasing her "Exercise for Better Bones" book as an adjunct to my exercise regime, thanks.

I purchased used, both Exercise for Better Bones and Strengthen Your Core. I was about to start with the second book when I fractured my L3.
I purchased her on-line program- Living With Compression Fractures to support this new daily challenge I have.
You can find endless free information from her melioguide.com site.
I have benefitted more from her work than any other source. She is devoted to the care of osteoporosis.

Sorry that I didn’t address your question, was I able to work through Margaret’s exercises on my own?
I was but that is my preference, I like to work independently and feel this to be a trusted and safe source of guidance.
If you know yourself to do best in an in person or group situation, it may not be for you. Good luck and safety in your search!

I misunderstood about the compression program. This book doesn't address compression fractures directly, but teaches about moving and exercising safely to avoid fractures. Mundy seems to be more aware of her offerings re compression fractures. Check out her website, and maybe even send her your questions. Best of luck to you!
