Pet scan after lumpectomy?

Posted by dconradvlasak @dconradvlasak, Jun 24, 2021

I am curious about how many people who had a lumpectomy with stage 1 or 2 cancer with no lymph node involvement received a pet scan after surgery to check for metastasis.

I hope that you can feel more peace about this but I am hoping some other folks here will chime in with ideas. I can only tell you I really worried about every little thing for a few years and that did lessen over time but it has never gone away. My brother in law who had cancer said the same thing just a few days ago. I did not get a pet scan until after all my treatments had been finished for about 8 months. I also have a genetic issue and I was in my 30s. I can tell you I decided if I just kept squeezing every drop of life out of every day, I would not feel cheated if it came back. I continue that even now 17 years later. Are you nervous about radiation treatments or just recurrence?

No, I'm not too nervous about radiation-other than the stress of wearing that mask! I am just really scared that it will come back and it won't be caught until it is too late.

I had breast cancer and a lumpectomy, radiation in the prone position. Since then I get my annual mammograms and I have been getting an MRI. I have dense breasts also research has found that MRI’s are better for dense breasts. I have had 3 cancers, of course one worries about the recurrence since I already had vaginal recurrence but I make sure that I get a CT every 6 months. It’s hatd not to worry but as time goes by you do have days when you don’t think about it. If I have any type of pains or not I tell my doctor and usually get the tests I need. Sometimes you have to be insistent.
Good luck time will help. I have never had a pet scan for my breast only for other things. Each scan looks for a different thing.
