Peritonsillar Abscess

Posted by Darlia @darlia, Jan 16, 2018

Does anyone have or have experienced these symptoms before? I started having many of these symptoms on Saturday morning when I woke up... Pain just in the left side up under the ear and jaw...and hurts just when I swallow... Nothing on the right. My husband says it sounds like my tonsil...I hate to agree but it does... Also it's been going back and forth from bothering me, pain and lump feeling to the left of my throat ..to not bothering me. It seems like when it IS both me, it's more noticable when I put my chin down toward my neck and then it seems more obvious when I swallow. I'm kinda scared, k
Like if it might be this then I'd better get an appt today with my Primary care. Although, I don't know if a primary care Dr could handle this? Need advice. Thank you for all of your help!

Latest report~Today it has not been apparent at all! Very strange indeed. Not sure what to do. Should I call the Dr anyway and get seen, especially since the description of this (if it is this) says that the symptoms can hide for 2-5 days? I think I should schedule with an ENT, not a Primary care. Still waiting for a mentor to fu on this with me. Just keep swimming! Just keep swimming. Thank you.

@darlia I had similar symptoms a few years ago swelling and pain under my jaw radiating into my ear. Eventually even my gums hurt. For me it ended up being an impacted salivary gland. It is a little scary because some of these symptoms can also be the symptoms of a heart attack in females. Likely and hopefully your issue is something easily fixed by the doctor, but you need to go see one. Please report back. I am curious what is causing this. Best wishes~K

Thank you for the info. Today not having any symptoms of pain. I do notice a little pressure feeling but the other symptoms not today. I did make an appt with ENT, but the Dr can't get me into the office till Feb 7th.. So between them and now, if it gets worse, I'll prob go to the primary car. They don't know much about it generally though. So what was the treatment for you?
Best to you~Darlia

Hi @darlia- how are you feeling today? Can you call your ENT between now and then to see if you can get in on a cancelation?

Hi Jamie,
Thanks for inquiring. Actually my husband and I had our flu this in Oct.. now we are both having minor symptoms so we are thankful we did!
The ear/throat is ok. In fact it's not bothering me much at all. A little pressure in my ear occasionally is all. I do use CPAP and read that this can be a cause of ear issues so I'm thinking this might be the cause. I'll be getting a hearing test too.
Just keep swimming~Best to you
