Period problems

Posted by confused77 @confused77, Dec 9, 2017

I had an endometrial ablation in may of this year my dr said I will either not have my period anymore or it will go back to the way it use to be before I had my kids. I thought maybe the clots would stop to but I guess not. My question is how big is to big for passing clots and what is a normal amount of clots? I’m beginning to think the ablation didn’t work. Also I had many polyps when they did the ablation.

Hello, @confused77. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. That sounds frustrating to be passing clots like you mentioned. I'd love for you to meet here on this thread some other Connect members who have talked about endometrial ablation: @debdeb, @bonnieh, @mindy62 and @rosysharon, who may have some insights for you. @dawn_giacabazi or @hopeful33250 may also have some thoughts.

What did the doctor who did the ablation say about the clot passing you are experiencing?

Hello @confused77

Please let me add my welcome to you. We are glad that you have joined Mayo Connect.

I am sorry to hear that your endometrial ablation was not as effective as you thought it would be. That has to be disappointing. I am glad to see that you have an appointment with the doctor soon to talk about a different plan of action.

While I have not personally experienced this type of problem, I'm wondering how long you have had endometrial problems. Is this a recent problem for you? What other treatments have you tried other than the ablation? You do not mention your age, but are you nearing menopause?

We look forward to getting to know you and providing you with encouragement and support while you find an effective treatment.

I am 40 and I have been dealing with it since I was 10 from never getting my periods. At the age of 20 I was diagnosed with PCOS I got pregnant with first child which I lost at 6 weeks and then 2 years later got pregnant with 2nd child she was late but had vaginal birth my periods where heavy after that and then in 09 I have twins they where c-section at 35 weeks. Then the periods got worse. Last year I had become anemic because of it. They claim my uterus is large and when he did the d and c and the ablation he had to remove multiple polyps. I’m sure menopause is in my future. I just didn’t think it would be this early.

Hello @confused77

I'm so sorry to hear that this has been a lifelong problem for you. It sounds as if you have had a lot of gynecological issues. Does this run in your family? Have you ever had fibroids?

We hope that you update us after you see your doctor later this week, we would like to keep in touch with you.
