Managing neuropathy and problems with balance or walking starts with finding the underlying cause and getting the right treatment. I would recommend working with a healthcare professional, doing physical therapy to improve strength and balance, and using a cane or walker if needed to prevent falls. Wearing supportive shoes, keeping walkways clear, and having good lighting at home can also make walking safer. Depending on the cause, medications and certain vitamins may help, but supplements should only be used with medical advice. If walking ability is getting worse, it is important.

@katdens I completely understand I have a walker for when I leave the house. I really only leave to go grocery shopping with my husband. Only leave with husband he worries and with good reason. I do get out with friends I just walk slowly and with my walker it has helped me a lot. I am 58 stage 4 breast cancer de novo, diagnosed January 2020. I can’t believe some days I am still here. My doctors say it’s because of my attitude. I try to be positive. I tell them all the time how I can’t leave my babies they ask how old and I say oh they are in their 30’s now Still my babies and my husband I love that man he needs me I can’t leave him so I stay positive and healthy as I can. Even with this crappy neuropathy

@crze14u2 So very sorry to hear about your diagnosis of cancer. Never give up. My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 and that was 15 years ago. Your situation is so much more difficult than mine. My best thoughts to you for a recovery.

I found that ZEBA shoes are the best for me !
I can put them on without bending down . I also take Alpha - lipid-acid which I feel helps .
I also use WALKINSINS in my ZEBA sneaks to help my balance ! I fell backwards about two years ago and broke my back ! The walk in sins are a prescription from my PT.

@roncapstraw Do the Walkinsins work. I had a demo but was hesitant to buy them because of the cost. Is your neuropathy confined to your feet or are your legs involved too

Hello Kelly @crze14u2, Welcome to Connect. I'm with you on staying positive with the neuropathy. It doesn't cost anything and it makes you focus on what's important in your life. I'm guessing that the breast cancer treatment is what brought on the neuropathy and wondering if you might want to connect with others to learn what they have shared. I did a search of Connect for "chemo induced neuropathy what helps" and thought I would share the related discussions and member comments - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/discussions/.

I am taken lryica, extended release morphine, and then when need an immediate release morphine 15mg, I forgot 800mg ibuprofen. Yet I still have burning, tickling, numbness in both feet up to my knees and my hands my right hand is worse….

@katdens thank you. Stay positive and listen to your body. Today I am really not doing much I am just sitting in my chair watching tv I don’t have the energy to do much more and that is ok. I have to listen to broken down self. That’s what I hear from my loving caretaker husband

Sending positive vibes and thoughts your way

@judygc my primary doctor has said that I have kind of luck out Two different times while my body was in distress for whatever reason and I was in the hospital my blood sugar tested high so now they say I am type 2 diabetes. However my ac1 never tested close just the finger prick. Well because of the test were done I can’t do anything he says let’s run with it. He is having me fitted for diabetic neuropathy shoes and inserts. They are supposed to help we will see. I was torn so I had some long talks with my palliative doctor he said that you have tested positive for being diabetic you Kelly are just in denial. You might not have symptoms now so try and loose some weight gain some muscle. You are not doing anything wrong that appointment is in December
