Perfect Vision
How many people think that “20/20” is “ perfect vision”?
It seems to me that once a person is determined to have 20/20 vision the testing stops there and ma be considered good enough.
Does anyone have a different take or understanding of this long accepted practice of testing one’s vision?
When I was in the Army I and others discovered that I had abilities that most other soldiers did not have.
“By Accident” ( Colleen, this it the name of the discussion I want to start )
Ft Bragg NC target practice at night during a storm; we are expected to deal with whatever happens on a scheduled activity. Our target practice at night happened to happen during a rain storm. It was expected that our scores would be lower than other companies who had their night target practice on a clear night. When it was my turn it was discovered that I was hitting targets 300 yards out while most other soldiers struggled to hit targets 100 yards out. The spotters ( soldiers recording you hits ) called the CO over to report that I was hitting targets that the solders with a night scope were missing. The CO wanted to know if “ are you pulling something soldier?” He ask. I replied NO SIR! “ then how in the F are you hitting targets that are snipers are missing?”
During daytime target practice I was 2nd best out of 200 men. I simply listened to the best advice for shooting an M1/8 rifle I was proud of my unknown ability with a rifle not being like one of the country boys who grew up hunting. I told him that I use the same techniques they taught us: “ find the target and adjust for conditions and distance. He barked at me “ So what you are telling me is that YOU SEE the target?” YES SIR” “ How is that possible ?” I didn’t know what he was asking but later found out that even on a clear night most soldiers can’t see a pop up target at 300 yards. They arranged on a clear night that I shoot against the snipers with night scopes and I was scoring the same as them or better. Explained that I had exceptional “ night vision “ I don’t recall a vision test for night vision. Later I discovered that I could read a newspaper held against a wall from 25 feet away with almost 100% accuracy The eye docs called it 20/10 vision but in truth there was no accurate means of testing my vision and as far as I knew I always could see this way including seeing in the dark.
The army decided that I should be a sniper which I really didn’t want to do. Later I was told by my buddies that I should have tried to miss the targets that being #2 in my battalion only made me appear to be “ front line ready “ Sadly they told me after I was marched to receive my EXPERT MEDAL. I had qualified Expert with every weapon they put into my hands I felt like a proud fool. As fate would have it I never saw battle in fact I never deployed to Nam even though I came down with orders twice for Nam, once as a border guard on the Berlin Wall and once after the pueblo crisis in Korea. But I had manifested a “ VERY IMPORTANT JOB “ which resulted in a “ little pinks slip stapled to my records in Wash DC So if my name was called and they went to my DC file the pink slip basically said “ pick someone else “ I was told that “ as long as you are a good boy you will never see combat” I think back to those days and say that’s when I hit the lotto!”
I was chosen to be the enlisted aide to the commanding general of 6th Army until he was promoted to be the commanding General of NATO! The girl that I was suppose to Marry thought that “ this is just another excuse to postpone getting married. She found another love which in a strange way took the pressure off of me to help plan a wedding. We now are still friends and in fact is the person I was referring to in my post about “ depression being contagious “ She is one year older than me and has had some horrible family issues and she does not like nor believe in therapy. I still do my best to support her but I’m actually afraid that she is driving off of a cliff and might be dead within a year! God, I hope I’m wrong but like most people on here depression of a person who one is close to makes one’s own life more difficult and as much as I would like to ask her :” don’t you think I with cancer could use support” I know that those words will only make her feel worse so I’m doing my best to stay close but not catch on fire.
To tie this in with the vision issue stress and depression only seems to make my condition worse so I take out every tool that I’ve acquired over my life time and use them to the best of my ability. We are 800 miles apart which is better for me than it is for her because I’m not sure how I’m going to deal with the possibility of a sexual opportunity arising up until I started the Lupron I had a rather active sex life which surprised my doctors and/but the laughed a little when they said I would need to worry about that anymore.
However shortly after taking the new pills Abiraterone I found myself getting erections for no apparent reason! One doc wanted to know I “did you try taking her out for a test drive” which seemed strange since I actually thought it.
The only connection I can think of that has anything to do with vision is that old joke about :” If you do that too much you will go blind “ I’m trying to be funny knowing that I drifted way off topic which I’d still like to get feedback about that “ perfect vision” question.
Probably best to end here before I find another strange thing to tie to this post
Sorry once again for going off again as I often do

Not sure what this post is about?
I don't know if my night vision is as good as yours lol but I was once told that I have 20/10 vision. The doctor told my little boy "your mom has eyes like a hawk". It seemed that way for many years but a few years ago I was diagnosed with soft drusen of the macula. A whole other story. I am relatively young for this Age related disease but so far my vision is still 20/20. I eat well, exercise, take lots of vitamins etc including for my eyes. I'm told by my retina specialists it may never progress and I may remain stable for decades. It's not a cut and dry path. It's different for everyone.
I know this doesn't have much to do with your post with the exception that I once received a visual acuity of 20/10.
