Pelvic Exam

Posted by PumpkinMaple @karinazimmerman, May 21, 2020

Hi! I am new! I am 19 and have an appointment coming up at Mayo for irregular periods, possible new birth control and terrible cramping. I will be seeing an APRN/DNP/CNP at the clinic. My Pediatric Gynecologist at Mayo is on maternity leave so- I am seeing this other lady. I was wondering if a physical/pelvic exam would be done at this appointment- wasn't sure due to my age. If so- am I able to opt out of receiving one? I don't have a way to directly contact that lady I will be seeing-

Thanks!

Hi @karinazimmerman, please call Mayo Clinic. Check your information package for a direct number to the department. If you can't find it, call the main number found on this webpage http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63 and they will put you through to the department. They will be able to answer your questions regarding a pelvic exam and tell them about your wishes not to have one. They will make sure that you are comfortable with the care you receive.

Hi,

I ended up reaching out to a different doctor that I have been working with for some other health issues and he's working through it with me! Thanks for the response! I appreciate it!
