How long before I''ll hear from my PCP for PET followup?

Posted by pamelaw @pamelaw, Jul 18, 2022

What is an acceptable length of time that PCP should respond with PET results review...PET was July 12th..results were posted in patient portal following day...numerous efforts to have PCP (both portal and hospital operator) contact to discuss and explain findings and where do we go from here. Fyi: PET "Impression" does not look or read good. Tomorrow will be day 8...today I once again sent a portal message with no result...

@pamelaw, It's been my experience that I either get a phone call from my PCP or a message on the portal within 24 to 48 hours or sooner (excluding Saturdays and Sundays). You said your test results were posted on Wednesday July 13th on the patient portal and I probably would have expected to hear back by Friday myself. Patient portal messages normally are responded to in one or two business days or sooner. I would encourage you to call the Office of Patient Experience and discuss your experience and expectations. Hi Pamela, I'm so glad you persisted and got an apology. May I ask how you are doing? Are you finding your way around the maze of appointments, doctors and other oncology services?

Hi, Colleen, this has been a very frustrating time, poor PCP communication..after that apology we had to wait for reommendations from Oncology, we just recieved that yesterday July 29th....so CT scan July 8th....Pet Scan July 12th and as mentioned just yesterday July 29th did we recieve the info that PCP had requested a CT guided biopsy T4 and ENT referral for FDG avid uptake in maxillary sinus......so as of yet we have no appts. Set up but hoping to hear something next week...thank you for your concern..

Perhaps you might want to schedule a follow up appointment. So you can sit down with the doctor and go over the results...good luck !
