PAWS after lexapro

Posted by mnmimi @mnmimi, 2 days ago

I tried Lexapro for anxiety twice: for about 3 years when my disabled daughter was ill/dying. And again couple of years later, when I was caring for my sister with terminal cancer. I had the same experience both times: as I started the medication, it was very difficult to reach a therapeutic level to where I experienced the benefits. But eventually did relieve the extreme anxiety. Also, both times, I weaned off very, very slowly in order to avoid side effects. However, I have now been off for one year. Within that year, my main complaint is extreme dizziness, disorientation, floating “like an untethered balloon”. I’ve also experienced two episodes of acute vertigo. I am now considering the fact that this is all due to my brain, not liking Lexapro and having difficulty with the withdrawal process. Could that be and what would help. I will never go back on a SSRI.
