Patellar femoral joint replacement after previous partial knee replace

Posted by msauercraft @msauercraft, Jan 28 8:50am

I have had a partial knee replacement knee replacement 10/24. Now I am told in need patella femoral joint replacement. Bad arthritis under kneecap. Surgeon said he would have to take out partial knee and do a full knee.
Can someone just get the patella femoral replacement after a partial knee??

Is the surgeon who is now recommending that you take out the partial, the same surgeon that installed the partial?

@shark
NO WAY would I go back to that surgeon nor his partner. Partner told me repeatedly that my pain was due to "scar tissue" and it would resolve.
That was totally wrong. New surgeon is a master and clinical chief of orthopedics for a major hospital.

Just saw MRI of my “failed TKR”. As suspected: patella is arthritic, and off location (subluxed), and ‘capsule’ is leaking.
Good that all can be corrected with surgery and I’ve got the surgeon to do it.
Not so good that the relocation of the patella requires its lateral tendons to be lengthened on one side and shortened on the other. It’s reliable surgery but will require keeping that knee totally straight 24/7 to heal the tendons. That means weeks with a brace. Gonna be tough to drive or anything that requires bent knees.
But I have great confidence that he/we can fix this and have at least one good knee.
I hope none of you need revision. Now a days there’s very little excuse for a bad Total Knee Replacement.
