Partial or Radical nephrectomy with Chronic kidney disease?

I was diagnosed incidentally due to my Chronic Kidney Disease stage 3A. My Dr. Sent me for a renal ultrasound and a 6cm mass was found. Then MRI with contrast and appt with urologist met with surgeon same day. I was not given a choice of a partial nephrectomy. Even though it is less than 7cm the location is mid pole anterior localized mild invasion to renal pelvis. CT scan of chest completely clear. I am asymptomatic. Female 60 yo. I am trying to get a second opinion now before my whole kidney is gone. I do not want to slide fast toward Stage 5 CKD. I can't get a nephrologist appt. Until after the surgery in about 3 weeks. I am hopeful I can get a second opinion by virtual appt. It is the same Baylor Scott and White. I go to the one in Temple, TX where I live. The bigger one is in Dallas medical center with the University of Texas. I want to know I have no choice except radical before I have the surgery. I know of one patient with a large tumor my hospital did a full nephrectomy and it was benign. My best friend had a partial with about 6 cm localized tumor 3 yrs ago renal cell carcinoma. Anyway was hoping someone had a similar situation

I had an 8 cm tumor of my right kidney and had my kidney removed in 1964 along with the right ureter. I am 80 now and have had 2 children and a full life with one. My feeling was when in doubt, cut it out. Too many chances for cells to go elsewhere was my thinking.

I had 2 tumors on my left kidney removed in Oct 2024. 5 cm + 2 cm = 7cm? Right? Initial discussion was radical nephrectomy, then surgeon at Mayo Rochester called the weekend b4 we flew out for surgery, to tell me after studying the 1,248 images of my CT, he believed he had a 95% chance of saving my kidney. And thats just what he did. Was a 7+ hrs open surgery. 90% of my kidney is still there and functioning. Best wishes to you!

@colleenyoung I researched and decided that I did not need the second opinion. The tumor is the size of lime, mid pole mild invasion of renal pelvis. It could cause urine leaks and bleeding. Plus they wouldn't have much time to get clear margins, sew it, and unclaimed. Thank you for the reply.
