Pain/burning on urination 4 weeks post catheter

They give Flomax to many people that have problems with peeing after surgery or radiation. Ask your doctor about this.

Another option

Pyridium (phenazopyridine) is specifically used to relieve the burning, pain, urgency, and discomfort associated with urinary tract irritation, which often includes the burning sensation while peeing.
It is available over the counter as AZO

Pyridium didn't help. Stopped Flomax after surgery, will ask about restarting. No infection

I did not have a catheter. But I wanted to mentioned the side affect of a procedure that gave me some of your symptoms you are posting as something to asked your doctors about as a possible cause.

When doing my simulation at UFHPTI the R/O wanted to do a CT with contrast of the back of my prostate. He needed to use a catheter to inject a contrast through my penis and up into my prostate. When he did so I felt a pain in the first part of penis. I did not think much about it until I pee'd later on and it burned when I urinated.

Long story short my R/O and PCP believed that the insertion of the catheter into penis could have caused damage and a stricture developed. It explained why it burned and the spraying type of urine flow you mentioned.

The burning sensation slowly went away but I still can feel the area is different and still have the difference in they flow of my urine to a type of spray.

I was asked if wanted to do the endoscopy of the penis is was bothering me a lot with the caveat could cause a possible stricture as catheter with scope would be done. I said no I can live with the spray but will monitor.

I just post this as maybe your post mirrored my symptoms from my personal experience with a catheter and something you can asked your doctors about as possible cause.

I have found over my journey with serious medical conditions to contact your doctors first before taking any OTC medications or supplements. Lucky I did as found several times the OTC could have contradicted other medications. In one case a OTC supplement was not recommended to take as was at high end of that mineral supplement per my blood tests and not to take it.

I asking me, Yes. I had 30 rounds of proton radiation and about the half way in I got frequency and urgency. I developed a plan to deal with it so urgency was not overwhelming. This urgency and frequency continued even at my 2.5 year mark.

My R/O at UFHPTI put me on Cialis (5mg) to relax prostate, bladder, and it helped. For me it really depends on how much water I drink and if I combine hot (like coffee) and a cold drink together.

And I am now 78 so father time catching up withe me.

Glad your plan is working as well as can be expected. Our treatments were different but thank you for sharing your experience. I’m 72, just a month out from surgery. Still on daily 5mg cialis for blood flow. Good luck going forward.

Its been 9 weeks since my prostate was removed and three weeks after catheter was removed, i started to burn really bad at the end of voiding where the bladder neck was connected. This has been going on for at least 4 weeks, and its been rough, and my urologist kept saying its normal. All of a sudden last night, i go to urinate, and no pain or burn whatsoever, and i urinated so much, i was just sitting there, and couldnt stop peeing. I also passed a blue stitch that was probably used to sew my uretha and bladder together. So far this morning ive had no burning / spasms, so im praying ive turned the corner. Out of the whole ordeal with surgery, this issue has been the worst part of it all. Ill take incontinence over the pain ive been having any day. Not everyone has dealt with this, so dont let it scare you to not get the surgery done.

Really glad to hear that. It certainly seems that might have been some issue and certainly should have been expelled naturally or dissolved a long time ago. Please monitor yourself for the time being for anything of of the ordinary. That much pain you were receiving was certainly not normal regardless what your urologist was saying. I would report what happened with this blue stitch and your clearing of your intense pain and improved flow.

I am really puzzled by what you are saying

Based on this sentence, it sounds like you’ve had the catheter in for six weeks. I know I had it in for two weeks 12 years ago, but the vast majority of people in the last few years have had it removed in 7 to 10 days.

Was there something off with the calculation? It doesn’t make sense that you would have it in that long, Unless there was some sort of problem that they needed it in for much longer than usual.

In my case, I had no pain or other issues at all, after having the catheter removed. I know a lot of other people that have had issues like you have had however.
