Pain relief with Gabapentin after broken hip surgery?
I discovered quite accidentally that Gabapentin made quite a difference in my pain level after surgery for broken hip. I have it on hand for nerve pain but this was an unexpected surprise. I know there are off-label uses for it. Has anyone else had this experience?

Cannsie, I have no experience with it myself but I have cats & know well that it is quite an effective sedative!
My pain doctor used it in conjunction with narcotics after all my orthopedic surgeries. Very effective!
It works on nerve pain but it interacts with so many other meds.
what drugs does it interact with?
The list is long. Google

Gabapentin also enhances other meds. So think pain med + it's one of my lifesavers with chronic pain.
I take Gabapentin on a regular basis - I had three surgeries on my broken knee last year. It has seemed to help some what. I also use Biofreeze roll on which seems to help at the same time.
Several studies suggest that gabapentin, particularly gabapentinoids, may be associated with an increased risk of fractures, especially hip fractures in older adults.
Key findings from research:
Increased Hip Fracture Risk: Gabapentinoid use has been linked to a 30% increase in hip fracture odds within the first 60 days of being dispensed the medication
I took it for three days after rotator cuff surgery and was surprised at how well it managed my pain - particularly at night. I slept better on the Gabapentin, despite being in a sling, propped up on an angle, and essentially unable to move - than I ever sleep otherwise!
I started taking gabapentin in 2008 for vulvodinia together with amytriptyline.I took it for years and it really helped.I am now almost 77 and I have limited the gabapentin to only one a day because it does affect one’s memory. It is a very safe drug in my opinion.
