Pain on the left side of my chest / back

Posted by ncsartell35 @ncsartell35, Jan 13 5:02pm

About 4-5 years ago, I randomly started experiencing chest / upper back pain. Never experienced it prior, but now it is constant pretty much everyday. I went to the hospital 3 times in total, got an EKG done, blood work done and everything came back normal. Even had a stress test done as well. I've been convinced by my doctor that its anxiety related, but I'm not so sure. The chest pain does make my anxiety spike, but I'm not sure where the pain is coming from. I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that I accidentally poisoned myself ~5 years ago by mixing household cleaners (not my brightest moment). Please let me know if there's anything I can do about this, I just want it to go away.

How about another medical opinion ?

Sorry, to hear of your problem. Just thought I would ask if you have had advice from a chiropractor as it could be quite helpful. I am not a doctor or chiropractor but do believe in alignment of the spine for many body problems. Just a suggestion. Good luck. Don't give up searching.

@ osteopaths can be very helpful…it was mine who alerted me to a serious problem- told me to get tested without hesitation, saving me from much suffering, saving my life… he is a much valued member of my team !

My neighbor had been experiencing pain she described as "her ribs squeezing her lungs" ~ it took a bit of sleuthing turned out she had two small fractures in her spine. Kyphoplasty fixed her.

For what it’s worth, something similar has happened to me on three occasions, all at night in bed. It was like a fist had formed in my upper back and was turning and tightening and making breathing very difficult and painful, and pain radiated into my chest and upper arms. The first time I rushed in a panic to emergency and had the heart work done, etc., but all the tests were fine. The second time I tried to relax and figure out my pain and breathlessness, consulted online, came upon the concept of cramping in the diaphragm. There were suggested breathing exercises that calmed down my cramping and breathing fairly quickly, and I knew what to do the third time it happened. It’s always nice to turn fear and uncertainty into a practical remedy. Just something you might consider, and I hope your issue is as simple as this.

@robertaeh thanks—breathing exercises can really help ! And due to long exhales, bring down blood pressure.
