Pain mangagement

What have any of you found to be effective in managing the spasms and ureter pain while using BCG applications? I just finished my second round of BCG (9) instillations in total. Beginning with application 7, the pain has been horrendous. I used an over the counter product AZO and found some relief for the spasms, but the intense pain every time urine is present has not calmed down. My urologist always tests for UTI prior to application and has not tested positive to this. I came very close to visiting the ER, but it is a 30 minute drive and I would not make it without having to stop to relieve myself three or four times on the way. Sleep is near impossible as I get the painful urge to urinate every 30-45 minutes even though I completed the last application two weeks ago. Any suggestions?

Hello @dilbert1955. My husband was prescribed an antispasmodic to use as needed. I believe it was trospium. His spasms were much less than what you describe so he barely needed to use it. Please contact your medical team to get some relief from that misery.

Thank you for that note. When I previously described by pain and spasms, the urologist was reluctant to prescribe anything that would numb the areas of concern as she felt it would cause water retention and then result in having to insert a catheter. I will pursue the anti spasmodic option. Just looking for a bit of relief. I am seriously considering cancelling any future BCG applications because this pain seems to be cumulative and gets more intense each time.
