Pain inside head

Posted by kikiama11 @kikiama11, Jul 12, 2023

Hello,

Recently I’ve been suffering from some kind of weird pain inside my head when I scratch over like the middle of my head but a little to the right. It’s quick and short but it feels like some type of shock, lasts for like a second before it passes. If I continue to touch I feel nothing more but if I let the area be and touch it again it comes back. I dont know if I’m posting in the right group but I hope I am.
I’ve been having neck problems recently if thats relevant.

Does anyone have any idea of what it could be?

I think you should see a neurologist.

@kikiama11 This is puzzling, indeed. Have you seen your primary care physician? That’s a good place to start because they will examine you and can determine if a referral to a neurologist is a good idea.

Have you talked with your primary care physician about this?

Yes, it’s find it really odd and worrying to be honest since it started so sudden. I’d understand if I have hurt my head in some way but I haven’t.

I’m making an appointment today. I live in Sweden so it’s hard sometimes to get the doctors to listen to you but I will try to get a referral to a neurologist. Thank you for commenting!

A Cat Scan or MRI will show what’s going on in your brain.
It may be a nerve that’s causing the problem.
Make sure your insurance
will cover these tests if it’s
“Medically necessary”, because they are expensive tests. Hope you get a diagnosis and relief.

You are in the right group. I, for one, have symptoms resembling yours and have seen my PCP and a neurologist. I have had a CT brain scan, an MRI brain scan with and without contrast and an occipital nerve block. All anyone can say at this point is that my opthalmic nerve is misbehaving. I get some relief taking 200 mg of gabapentin at night and 200 mg in the morning but I continue to have low level pain. Some, apparently, get some relief by taking carbamazepine.

I am 81 years old.

@kikiama11 That’s a good place. I am hoping that your family doctor will refer you to neurology.

The first part of your text is exactly the way I went, seeing all those Doctors, having all the same tests. I have had an allergic reaction to Gabapentin, throat totally CLOSED, so that's out.
This is the first time I heard of that one. I am going to look that up next!!

@kikiama11 -

If you have been having neck issues, then go with that.
The occipital nerves run up the scalp. With neck stability issues, muscle tightness etc…can tighten these muscles which irritate the nerves and can run up the scalp.
Cervicogenic headache, Occiptial headache is typically what you would get diagnosed with.
Musculature in nature which puts pressure/tightness on the nerves.
