Pain in right buttock

Posted by mikaylar @mikaylar, Jul 19 8:30am

This feels like a knife stabbing me and I can hardly walk. Ice or heat seems to work for 5-10 minutes. I cannot sleep or get comfortable. Have to wait until next week for doc appt. Anyone have this?

@mikaylar I'm sorry you're having pain disrupting your life. I'm right there with you myself and it got kicked off by sitting on a hard floor. I've had issues before with my pelvis getting pulled out of alignment and I know when that happens because I feel pain on one side of the low back. I've done a lot of stretching that my physical therapist showed me and I found that muscles connecting my pelvis and legs were very tight. After loosening everything I find, it has helped a lot, although I still have some issues lifting one leg as much, but that has been better. There may be some intermittent muscle spasms at work. I did walk a lot yesterday and that seemed to help a lot, but that was after I got range of motion back with stretching. I will get some pain when bending forward.

Here is a link that explains how pelvis misalignment issues can act like a lumbar spine problem.

Do you have a physical therapist you can call to ask questions while you wait for your doctor?

Yes, you might have sciatica.

@mikaylar - First off, pay attention to what Jennifer says. She's extremely knowledgeable about such things.

Have you already had any spinal surgery? I assume the answer is "no".

I had the same symptoms with the buttock pain. The pain was often indescribable though it wasn't there 100% of the time. But when it was (I believe the pain radiated from a clenched muscle related to nerve compression) there, WOW did that hurt!

I had lumbar 2-5 full work done 14 months ago and the buttock pain is totally gone.

What doctors have you seen and what have they said about the cause of your pain?

I had an operation for spinal stenosis about a year and a half ago. I get pain in my right hip. Sometimes I use a tennis ball and put it between me and the wall and try to move around in a circle. It helps.

Stretching is important. Walking is good too. If you don't have a dog and you are able to have one, it's a great excuse to walk--and they are great companions. If you don't have a dog, I highly recommend a "rescue." They are a great breed and seem to know you have saved them. I found my last rescues, of all places, on Kijiji!

Another option is Yoga. I met a therapist in the hot tub where I was holidaying. He gave me a lot of advice to do. One was to make sure to take Vitamin E and all those other pills with oil in them. He advised that medically approved cannabis or CBD oil was good too.He also encouraged going to the swimming pool and getting either a kick board or a foamy and put your arms on it and kick up and down the pool
Dr. Gundry advises to take about a tablespoon of good grade olive oil is good for you as well. Keep trying until you find what works.

my husband has been having the same pain. It seems that it is due to lumbar stenosis. He has several compression fractures L5-S1 this collapse has causes pressure on the nerves on both sides of the vertebrae. After MRI and X-rays, it is looking like laminectomy is in his future.

@acmuceus I'm sorry to hear about your husband's spine condition, and I hope he will have a solution in the future. Does he have osteoporosis? Bone density and quality is always a consideration when spine surgery is considered. Has your husband been seen by an expert for bone quality such as an endocrinologist?
