Pain Front, Outer Knee

Posted by maryliza @maryliza, Apr 26 2:55pm

I am four weeks post TKR. While doing heel slides I can flex my knee up without pain, but feel extreme pain when extending my leg. The pain is on the front, outer portion of the knee. My PT says this is normal but I’m curious if others have felt this. Thanks!

I am 8 weeks out and definitely had the pain you are describing. You may already know working to improve leg extension is harder than getting flexion where you want it to be, but it’s worth doing the work. At 7 weeks, I no longer had pain from leg extension exercises/PT. Hang in there!

I messaged my doctor about the other knee pain and pain when extending knee. His response was to prescribe a Medrol dosepak as I could have some irritation of the nerves around the spine.

Reading spine and nerves in the same sentence made my brain overreact and my heart beat fast (exaggerating here)! Has anyone had this experience?
