I doubt anyone can answer why you carry a guilt feeling about needed meds. If it’s helpful I would suggest you get some talk therapy to address. I’ve done it many times and it’s always helpful. Good luck!

@sandra1983 Sometimes the medications we need to take may impact our daily life, and we rely on others' help to accomplish normal routines. This could lead to feeling guilty. But, please don't. If it is a necessary evil to help you, then it is necessary! You certainly did not choose to be in this position, and finding something to help relieve your pain shows you care about your quality of life.

As @pb50 mentioned, perhaps discussing this with your clinic's social worker or with a therapist, will allow you to see your value, and help you dispel those feelings of guilt. Can you look into this and let me know?

I know that feeling guilty is not at all how I should feel and I do feel that I'm worth taking the drugs to be able to cope physically thru out the day. I know that I did not ask for this pain however with the opioid war going on in today's society it's just hard for me to not feel strange about the issue at hand. I have talked to my psych Dr and PCP about this. They are in agreement that I do need the drugs and therefore I cope with the situation as a whole. Thank you so much for your encouraging words!❤️

@sandra1983 The opioid war is definitely something that crosses the minds of many people. But personally I don't think those of us who rely on medications to help us through the day, are to be considered part of the group who abuses opioids. All someone would need to see is how we cannot get by without them.

I have always felt that pain was a temporary condition and it would soon be reeducated to a non condition. I went through 6 months or more trying to not take the medicine.
Today I take the medicine as prescribed and go to a regular doctors appointment to keep the oversight on a current bases.
Yes, the pain is real and a few criminals have made our lives very uncomfortable.

I think the pain meds we need to take .. combined with other meds that we need to take warp our minds into feeling guilty. We should not feel guilty in trying to be us somewhere in the drug world.

I try to take as little oxycodone as I can. That leaves me at a pain level of 5-6 on that chart I despise. I increase the oxycodone and my level goes down to 4-5 . My thinking, memory and attention span are lacking when I increase the dosage. So I save the increase dosage for the excruciating pain days .. the days I cannot function with the pain …. and accept the 5-6 pain level as functioning me.
