Pain a year after operation for spinal stenosis, L4, L4

Posted by elizadolittle @elizadolittle, Feb 10 8:39am

Two years ago, I suddenly developed spinal stenosis. I was given the choice to stay on two Tramadol and two Gabapentin four times a day or have an operation. I took the operation. I'm off the opioids, thank goodness. I am still experiencing pain. I can control it most of the time with Tylenol Extra Strength and an ice pack. The surgeon made no promises. I am wondering if this is going to be part of my life for the rest of my life. And I would appreciate any suggestions to prevent/reduce the pain. Acupuncture does help.

Thanks! I celebrated (almost the exact date) by returning to Mayo for an aquablation procedure. All’s good. .

I can't let the diary comment pass...Diaries take only a few minutes a day to maintain and can be a very useful as a means of both expressing your frustrations and tracking your actual post-surgery progress. My diary has been a very important component of my overall rehab.

It never rains, but it pours. Having to deal with your back and then a broken ankle ! It sounds like you are surviving. And that's great! I am still testing the ice pack on my back without pain killers. It seems to make the pain killers more effective if I combine them with the ice pack.

I guess I have other ways of expressing my frustrations. At the moment, I am working on founding a new environmental organization that focuses on saving our endangered peatlands worldwide. i am working on learning how to create a website as well as doing fundraising, etc. You name it!
My organization is called the Peatlands Protection Society. I am working on creating an effective email address. I just learned yesterday the difference between a "branded and unbranded email addresses." I discovered that the email address that I was going to use is a "no-no" as it is one that is blocked by some email servers!

I've had enough frustration with having to change my personal email server because my old one decided that I could only receive and NOT send. The IT personnel with the company refused to admit it was their problem. There was one exception. Unfortunately, he didn't convery that to the local IT person. My IT person just about blew a gasket trying to convince the fellow that the problem was not with my computer.

As for a diary, I did one years ago. I don't want to look back. I want to look forward.

To each his own. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you, the world depends on it. Check out the North Carolina Nature Conservancy. They had a great explanation on their front page on their websie. Then it was taken down. It might be posted somewhere else on the website.

I am 71 and 34 years post op spinal fusion L4-S1 for spondylolisthesis following a fall down steps. My bars are stainless steel which has been found to cause issues both above and below the bars. I now have OA of my entire spine, lumbar stenosis, chronic pain and PN. But I walk 2 miles daily and exercise/stretch 2x day. I’m on pain meds but considering these are my only issues I can’t complain. As long as I can move relatively well I’ll keep on doing it. I just started PT again for upper back spasms and arm/hand pain. You have to get a system tweak every now and then.

You are a young chicken! I can't believe I am 85! Moving appears to be the key. I walk my little Bichon/Poodle, Miah. And I have one set of stairs that I am constantly going up and down. I am taking lessons to learn how to create a website for my new organization. I can't believe all the little details I am learning.
