Ovarian cysts

Posted by lostatsea @lostatsea, Jun 26 7:52am

I had a large (7cm) cyst drained from ovary 7 months ago. I have never stopped having pain in the area particularly around pms and ovulation time- which I understood to be related to scar tissue. Now I’m having pain all the time again. My period has been off for the last two months. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?
I also seem to have painful cysts in one of my breasts.
Fyi im of childbearing age and have been on hormonal birth control for almost 14 years.

Welcome to mayo Connect, hopefully you will find support and advice from other women who have experienced something similar. You should have these returning and new symptoms checked out by a provider.

Has anyone mentioned or tested for endometriosis?

Do you have an appointment with your PCP or a gynecologist to discuss?

I had a follow up scan in April and the original cyst had shown signs of shrinkage. It had been drained 90% from 7cm in November. There was a new cyst on left side. They ruled out them being endometriomas due to the colour. However both are hemorrhagic.
I am working on getting an appointment. I’ve been used to the pain but lately it has been more consistent and unrelated to pms or ovulation. Also as stated the pain in my breast has become bothersome to the point hugs and tight bras are painful.

That sounds really painful. I had chocolate cysts on my ovaries during ovulation in the past, but they subsided. Sorry you’re having this. I hope someone who is familiar with it will chime in. Best wishes on your recovery.

I’m past child bearing but when younger, I had a lot of issues with cysts in my ovaries. I had an operation to remove a large cyst from my left ovary but then combatted many other cysts after that. I believe my problem started after I had a tubal ligation and that was the cause; no place for the egg to go so they became entrapped in the ovary. It did help when I went into a birth control pills, the hormones did help. I suggest doing s hormone panel test to see if your body is lacking any hormone. I went into bio identical hormone therapy and that gave me a new life. I’ll be 70 soon

Thank you for sharing!
A hormone panel test could definitely be helpful.
Sorry you had to go through all of that.

I’m still waiting to be given an appointment.
Unfortunately I am from an area with limited accessibility to women’s health care and am struggling for help.
