Outlier T Score on my radius

Posted by kgw @kgw, Nov 21 11:20am

All areas of my DXA scores are relatively the same, except for my T Score on my Radius is considerably worse. Has anyone had results where their arm/radius is significantly worse than their spine and hip? I am confused why my radius score is such an outlier.

Kgw, there are a couple of disorders where osteoporosis can occur first in the radius one is hyperparathyroidism and the other is celiac disease.
If you have slender arms, the bone wouldn't be less dense, but would appear less dense on Dexa because Dexa cant determine the size of the bone it measures.
There could also be a mixup in which part of the arm is scanned for the T score comparison. Between ultra distal, distal and mid forarm there is a difference in bone type which determines density.

I have this as well! I’m very slender and small boned (tiny wrists) I can’t help but think it’s the way it’s being measured. My spine and hips are more osteopenia range.

@gently My endo mentioned it could be due to my Kidney stones/disease. I am definitely not small boned. I am 5'10" and a former college basketball player. I have an athletic build. Strangely, my Dexa is -3 on my radius. I do not have Celiac or hyperparathyroidism based on blood tests from last month. Thank you for all the input.
