Optilume Balloon Treatment for Prostatic Strictures
Has anyone on the Mayo Connect Group had a Optilume balloon treatment for Prostatic Strictures following Prostate Cancer and radiation treatment. I have heard good things about it and am scheduled to have this done in the near future. Interested in other peoples experience and outcome.
Thanks,

A female here, who had Optilume a year ago this month (1/2025). My story: I've had 23 years of flu vaccine swelling in my pelvic and rectal area. My urination and bowel movements were not been very good all this time. My urination closed off before the Optilume due to an infection in my urethra resulting in blockage. My bowel movements and urinary flow is better a year later. I'm still having pelvic and rectal pain. The side effects have been rough; nausea, chills, weakness, constipation, sore eyes, sunburned skin on my back. It's better a year later, but still there.

I am saddened to hear of your medical condition. It sounds distressing and you have my sympathy. Is it your thought that your body is allergic in some way to the flu vaccines?
I had the the Optilume procedure November 2023 following 3 other laser procedures to open my bladder neck which has been scarring over since receiving what a believe was too much radiation for prostate cancer. Gleason 7 and 8's. 25 Radiation treatments plus brachytherapy. None of the bladder neck surgeries worked significantly but gave me some relief for short periods of time. I fought getting a SPC (super pubic catheter) but I could no longer handle the self-cauterization, incontinence and short-term relief. So, 2 years ago I opted for the SPC and for the most part I have gotten used to it. I had great hopes for the balloon treatment and wish you the best. Your situation is different than mine and I think offers you the chance for better outcomes.
