Opportunities for socialization in Rochester, MN?

Posted by skk15 @skk15, May 5 11:54am

Are there any groups of people with dementia in Rochester, MN, that meet for lunch or coffee? Particularly that have men participating. Maybe at churches, grocery stores, or restaurants?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Caregivers Support Group.

I don't live in Minnesota but my son and his family live there. My question is what kind of socialization? Exercise group, hobby woodworking group, gardening group, beekeeping, and related areas would be interesting to my wife and I. Any way a common interest maybe would help.

Physical activity very limited. Mostly conversation with others. Interests: history, fishing, sports, nature. Lunch or coffee setting.

@skk15, I'm tagging @roch on this discussion to make sure she sees your question. She may have ideas.

I also suggest contacting Mayo Clinic Concierge Services to see if they have a list of local meetings that may or may not be associated with Mayo Clinic.

Social interaction is very important. I have one suggestion, Elder Network is an organization that should be able to help you find resources, https://www.elder-network.org/

Specifically, on their website has a page with information on some workshops and possible meet-ups.
https://www.elder-network.org/events-workshops/
They also do an Outreach program where a Senior Advocate provides information to those 55 and older and their caregiver. It is held at 125 Live the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 9 - 11 AM. You do not have to be a member of 125 Live to come in and meet the advocate. Just need to sign in as a guest when enter. No registration is required. If not familiar with 125 Live, it is located at 125 LIVE, 125 Elton Hills Dr NW, Rochester, MN

I hope you find some options.
