Only 53 with severe osteoporosis and about to fearfully take Evenity
I am 53 and just got an awful bone density result. (Spine T score 4.1, hip 3.5). The rheumatologist is going to put me on Evenity for a year but I am so afraid after reading about the dangers of heart attack and stroke. The doctor also told me you can’t get any dental work done, but you never know when you are going to have a tooth emergency. I don’t feel I have a choice but to take it because my bones are so bad and my back is in constant pain. I’m wondering if anyone has been using Evenity and how it has affected them. Thank you!

I like the pellet approach. More convenient than patches and compounded creams.
I have a estradiol testosterone pellet inserted every 12 weeks. Medicare does not pay for that part of my bhrt and it is $375 each time. They do pay for my provider visits, progesterone and estradiol vaginal cream as well as blood tests.

I really don't have back pain and have not broken anything. I work out already. I am about to start the Evenity (in December) plus HRT. I have read on this page that some people have terrible side effects and others have none. My rheumatologist said that the side effects are rare(?). Who knows but I am willing to take the chance. She is optimistic that the Evenity plus hrt plus the vitamins I am on will reduce my numbers. We shall see. It's all really scary, I agree.
my doctor wanted me on Evenity and that whole dental thing has scared me so far. you do just never know when you are going to have a tooth problem
I know your post is a year old, but I'm just reading it now. I'm 53 and also just diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. My doctor is starting me on Evenity (assuming my insurance approves it). I'm nervous about side effects, but after reading a bit, it seems most people tolerate it well? How have you been tolerating it?
I'm also starting HRT as suggested by my OBGYN and my Endocrinologist. They say the bone benefits outweigh the risks of HRT.
A little anxious to start this journey but clearly other younger (early 50's) women are also dealing with this so it makes it a little less worrisome.

2 Reactions@windyshores I am getting g my 7th evenity shot this week. I need a tooth extracted and implant that I. Was hoping to be able to wait until evenity stopped but the dentist says I need the work done sooner. What do people here know about evenity and tooth extractions and implants

Hi Just happened to see your reply because I checked the email linked to this account I should check either my email or mayo connect more often.
Very curious what you find out. I am about to have a lot of dental work - just voluntary, finally fed up with old crowns not matching - so definitely don't want to start. And talked to my oncologist again, said if HRT meant getting breast cancer in 10 years but getting my bones stronger this year and being able to ski in the interim I'd take that deal with the devil. He actually agreed, said he too felt quality of life is important and I may never get breast cancer again. He said he was putting in his notes that I wanted to talk to my doctor about the 'considered risk' of taking HRT. I guess this is to cover him.
