Occipital Neuralgia Relief

Posted by itskingzman @itskingzman, Mar 7, 2024

Valium and a medrol dose pack. That's what fixed my occipital neuralgia. I've had my finger torn off, kidney stones, nothing compares to this. This is for anyone suffering like I did. I was confined to my couch for 3 weeks straight because I couldn't lay may head down to sleep. I had lighting like pains in my head non stop, the only thing that would help is taking a very hot shower. I was on oxycodone, oxycarbazepine, methocarbamol, indomethacin, Diclofenac sod dr, cyclobenzaprine, nortriptyline, gabapentin. I went to a pain clinic and got nerve blocks in both sides of my head, it didn't help. After trying everything and considering surgery, what helped it go away was Valium and a medrol dose pack.

my sinuses also in flame I also get burning pain above both my ears brushing my teeth hurts And causes burning throughout my face, my eyes get very dry and burn I also get very loud tinnitus This all started after a neck fusion at C3. Can you share any ideas of what helps you? I am new to this, and I am waiting for my first appointment with a neurologist, which is still five days away… Muscle relaxers and heating pads along with hot showers. Makes my pain worse… I guess heat is not going to be my friend Through all of this. Suggestions, please?

Hi,
I aam beeing diagnosed not to long ago and in fact I looked my simptons up and diagnosed myself and coroborated it with mt Dr. I was diagnose with Facet joint syndrome on the left side prior to this and went to PT for several month and did all the stretching and exercises recomended.
Out of nowhere this pain came and the dismissed it as part of the facet joint syndrome and so on.
So, to make it short, ice and gabapenting low dose is what I am on now.
Ice helps a lot and gabapentin for now somehow too.
I also take a muscle relaxer to tight neck muscle wich is Soma and Tylenol for pain.
I have an appointment with a neurologist in July. Will see.
I am reading that there are so many things that we can try beeing Botox the latest. And all the other nerve blocks. They all need to be repeated every 3 month or so.
It is a horrible pain and I never thought I was going to suffer of it. Nobody in my family has. I wish you good luck and try with ice

@llc777 I went for physical therapy. There are videos on YouTube that can help.
Have you found the cause? For me it was a new pillow. It pushed my neck up and forward.

Hope you feel better!

@llc777 I had head pressure and blurry vision Feb. 17th. I went to the ER and they checked me With CT and MRI. Nothing was found to have caused it. I spent two days in the hospital on a stroke protocol and nothing. A Doctor came in and was wearing a mask (I knew who he was because I worked as a nurse although I am now retired. ) Anyway he said to me that I needed to get my BP in line. I called my husband and told him to give me my blood pressure readings. So I wrote them up and gave them to the Doctor. That was the end of that. My BP was in line. Then when I was gonna be discharged two more Doctors came in wearing masks. One was a Neurologist. His comment was, "For lack of a better term we are gonna call this a TIA." So he labeled me. 3 Doctors said I did not have one and I knew I didn't. Instead of saying we don't know what is wrong and maybe even figuring out another Dr. to send me too this is what I got. REALLY! I spent the next five months going to Doctors near where I live and nothing. Not even my Neurologist could diagnose what I had. He should have. So I took the bull by the horns and my sisters idea and looked on the internet in Houston. I found a Neuro-Opthalmologist which I didn't know they had those. So I made an appt with a Neurologist in Houston in the am and in the PM went to the Neuro-Opthalmologist.
I was diagnosed with Occipital Neuralgia. They sent a script in for Gabapentin and it has helped. I would ask your Doctor about that. Hope you get help. I do understand. I can't say I know how you feel cause only you know that. When I came home from the hospital I had fleeting head pains but they were not very painful. I had a one time burning on my head. But I get head pressure in the right lower back of my head up above my neck. It is pressure not a headache. I know that if you look it up pressure is considered a headache. But to me it's not the same. The last time I had a headache was over 31 years ago and it was pounding. @rnlorena
