Occipital Neuralgia dizziness and vertigo

I’m just curious what others have found helpful in reducing/managing ON associated dizziness and vertigo. I was recently diagnosed with ON after being dismissed by my previous provider, I was started on a medication right away which almost immediately reduced the nerve pain in the back of my head but the dizziness and vertigo are still lingering. I’m currently waiting to get into the neurologist and hopefully learn more about additional treatments to continue improving my quality of life. Any suggestions welcome!

PPPD POSSIBLY! I had a similar problem and 2 years later the off balance and dizziness still is there. Vestibular therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy is a slow process.

@adria1005 Welcome to Connect. The symptoms you describe may be associated with a cervical spine issue. I am a spine surgery patient. I had spinal cord compression at C5/C6 because of a herniated disc with bone spurs. Muscle spasms are very common with spine injuries, and these can move the alignment of vertebrae. That was happening to me where my spine would twist to the right on its own. If C1 or C2 were twisted, that set me up for a vertigo episode and all I had to do was look upward, and the world started spinning. Realigning the vertebrae resolved this until the next episode. Since my spine surgery and decompression of the cord, I don't get vertigo anymore. I do still get muscle spasms, and I work on them. Periodically I need to see my physical therapist for a tune up.

Do you have plans to consult a spine specialist?
