Nutritional advice needed

I have celiac disease, GERD, and ineffective esophageal motility. Where can I find out what I should eat and how to eat it to make it possible to swallow safely?

You certainly have a lot to deal with. You would think your doctor would give you advice, but I’ve learned we have to be our own researchers and find what works for us. I wish I could help!

You do have a lot of disorders and I can understand your confusion as to what to eat when to eat and even how to eat. As someone who has had digestive issues from several surgeries as well as swallowing issues from vocal cord surgery and a neurological disorder, I would recommend that you ask for a couple of referrals.

The first would be to ask your GI doctor or your PCP to give you a referral to a registered dietician who can help you sort all of these problems out and develop a food plan that can help you.

In order to deal with swallowing issues, I would recommend that you ask for a referral to a speech pathologist. A lot of folks think that speech therapy is only for speech problems, however, speech pathologists can also help you with exercises for swallowing problems.

Thanks for your kind reply. I received a referral to a dietitian and then learned that Medicare does not cover this. So I called a dietitian on my own and have an appointment early next week so I guess I'm on the right path.

Just an FYI – I found the Nestle ProNourish protein drink to be very well tolerated, and since it has a lot of vitamins too – it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep your nutritional level up. I ended up ordering from amazon, since i couldn't find it anywhere else. I ordered the one with no FODMAPs or dairy or gluten. I originally ordered chocolate, but I've not found it since that first time, so the vanilla is okay.
