No response to 12 months of Evenity?

Having no improvement in Evenity is very unusual. Can you find an endocrinologist who specializes in osteoporosis? They will run an entire battery of tests - bloodwork and urine - and try to find what is the underlying cause which is making your body resistant to the bone stimulating effects of Evenity. Please do this before starting another OP drug, which may not work for you either unless the underlying cause is found and treated. Also please don't give up! OP can be treated very effectively with drugs. Best of luck to you.

@roseincalifornia I see an endocrinologist who is head of osteoporosis treatment at a major Boston hospital. There was testing done however no blood markers. I consulted two endocrinologists and both said they don’t use then before treatment. I am having a CTX before starting Reclast. I am waiting for phonecall from dr to get answers about why Evenity did not work. I have never taken any OP drugs before Evenity, have normal calcium, Vit D. It’s a mystery. Thanks for the encouragement. I’m hanging in there!

@evelyngrace - Sorry to ask, but when you say your "calcium levels were normal throughout treatment", that's different than stating you were getting 1200mg of calcium in your diet each day. Your calcium will stay in the normal range even if you are not taking calcium but you will not gain bone material if you are not taking calcium during treatment.

@michaellavacot I agree with Michael. Your body will suck the calcium out of your bones to maintain normal levels in your blood. And there is a lot you are not including. What about your exercise, nutrition, supplements? Protein was a big one I was unaware of- didn't know it was necessary for bone formation.

Of course I’m on top of all of that; exercise, lots of dietary calcium, cal citrate 1200mg daily, and especially protein. I track everything in an app, nutrition and exercise. I’m posting because I’m interested to hear from others who had no response to Evenity. I just finished 12 months of a very powerful drug that had zero impact. I don’t need a lesson in osteoporosis management. I need to hear from others who have had a similar experience. I appreciate your interest, but not what I need to hear at this time. Anyone out there in this community have a poor response to Evenity? I would love to hear from you.

@evelyngrace I understand your question. Yet, I think it's valuable for others with severe osteoporosis if we can find out what could be the culprit....

So, please, forgive me, but I'd still like to ask, whether you got extensive blood tests before going on Evenity in order to prevent secondary causes of osteoporosis interfering with your possible Evenity gains.

Also, what was your calcium / magnesium ratio? If that is off, the calcium has much more trouble getting into your bones.

@wilweten I did have a lot of testing done before starting Evenity. Is there any specific test that you’re interested in? All tests I had were normal. I’ve had sub clinical hyperthyroid for decades which we decided to treat after the seventh injection of Evenity as the TSH dipped into the hyperthyroid range (after being Subclinical for years). My serum calcium and serum magnesium were normal. I don’t how you are measuring cal/mag ratio. My endocrinologist says the PTH is the most accurate measurement of what’s going on with calcium in your body. Nothing I’d like more than to figure out why I had no response but the doctor can’t explain it. This drug has only been available since 2019 so there’s not a lot of data on no responders.
