no one to cut out Carcoinoid tumor in Mesentery

I cannot believe that no one can move aside a bowel and remove the carcinoid tumor out of the Mesentery

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Neuroendocrine Tumors (NETs) Support Group.

I can certainly understand why you feel that way. It seems like it should be as simple as moving the bowel aside and removing the tumor.

Unfortunately, mesenteric carcinoid tumors can be much more complicated than they appear. Many of them wrap around or become attached to the major blood vessels that supply the intestines. If those vessels are damaged, part of the bowel can lose its blood supply, which can make surgery very risky.

That said, every case is different. If you've only been evaluated at one center, it may be worth getting a second opinion from a high-volume neuroendocrine tumor (NET) center. Surgeons who specialize in NETs sometimes have experience with difficult mesenteric tumors that other surgeons consider inoperable.

I hope you're able to find a team willing to review your case and explain exactly why surgery is or isn't an option. Sometimes another expert may see possibilities that weren't offered initially.

Rare Cancer Program in Metairie, Lousiana.
Dr. Phillip Beaudreaux.
Performed a NETs surgery in my mesentery including a small bowel resection that many doctors and two previous hospitals had said "no" to. This team does surgeries that others do not do. Good luck.

Hello @panorman3,

As @mcharlesfrancis and @jlsgt have already suggested, it would be wise to consult a NET specialist to ensure you receive the best possible treatment plan. As NETs are a rare form of cancer, a NET specialist would be a good choice for a second opinion at this time.

There are NET specialists at all three Mayo Clinic locations (appointment information is available at http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63). If it is not possible to be seen at a Mayo facility, here is a link from the Neuroendocrine Tumor Research Foundation with NET specialists in the U.S.: https://netrf.org/for-patients/neuroendocrine-tumor-doctor-database/page/8/

How are you feeling?

Hello,
As others have mentioned, you should seek the opinion of a surgeon with expertise in neuroendocrine tumors. My husband was diagnosed 2 years ago with a small bowel tumor and mesenteric involvement. He has not needed surgery yet but we have consulted with a few experts.
Dr Eric Liu in Denver CO
Dr Peter Learn in Fairfax, VA
Dr Norman Nicolson in Baltimore, MD
We were impressed with all of them.
