NJH - Dr. Eddy

Posted by bayarea58 @bayarea58, Jan 29 2:34pm

Everyone, I have been assigned to Dr Eddy in the ID department of NJH. In reviewing prior comments, I see enough to give me some pause about Dr. Eddy. I am traveling from out of state and overall the trip is a big investment for me so I want to do all I can ahead of time to set myself up for a successful visit. Given past comments, I question whether I should request a different doctor, even if it changes my dates. Any feedback anyone has on their experiences with Dr. Eddy, or thoughts generally, please let me know. Please private message me if you prefer to share confidentially. Thank you!

No experience at NJH but have culled info from reading here and other sites. What I’ve gleaned is when you make an appointment with NJH make sure it’s with the center for excellence. Maybe others can offer more advice.

Im also going to NJH in April, but I don’t know the doctor I’ve been assigned. How do I figure that out?

When I started going there 2 years ago I was asked which Doctors I wanted to see. After doing my due diligence I asked for Dr. Daley/Dr. Kasperbauer but had to wait 4 months to get on their schedule (which I had no problem doing). I saw them both the first visit (10 days) and every visit thereafter I have seen Dr. Kasperbauer but I do run into Dr. Daley often while there and he answers any questions I may have. If you feel uncertain about who you are appointed then ask if you can see someone else and possibly wait a little longer to get in. I too travel a long way (Florida) and wanted to be content with my decision. Good luck to you.

They told me when they scheduled me. They gave me the names of the infectious disease doctor I was assigned to and a patient ambassador.

Yes I got a patient ambassador. I will ask her

I've not personally seen Dr Eddy. However, when I last saw Dr Daley (my doctor since 2010), I learned that he had hand-picked Dr Eddy. As Chief of the NTM/ID division at NJH, it's hard to imagine that he would have selected a physician that wasn't totally prepared to treat both NTM and bronchiectasis. As an aside, my local pulmonologist wanted me to change to drop Dr Daley and go to Dr Eddy because he is easier to consult with. Dr Daley travels all over the world educating other physicians about NTM so he isn't always readily available for consultations. Hope these tidbits are helpful.

I saw Dr. Eddy and his team for 2 weeks in November. Dr. Eddy doesn’t have much personality, but I thought he was very good. I go back in May for repeat tests to see how things are progressing.

I saw Dr. Eddy for my visit to NJH from MA. I was very impressed by his knowledge of MAC and found him very kind and understanding. He even conferences with my Dr @ MGH.
Highly recommend!
Best of luck!

I have been seeing Dr. Eddy since 2021. I have recently started my second round of MAC therapy medications. My situation is a bit more complicated as I am a transplant patient as well. I am blessed to have him as my ID doctor. He is very knowledgeable, very thorough, and listens intently. Since moving back to New York, I have found a local ID doctor. I still consider Dr. Eddy to be my primary ID doctor. He consults with my doctors here in New York and as I have begun this second round of MAC, I am completely confident in my treatment plan with Dr. Eddy. Best of luck to you!
