Night cramps

Posted by v8auto @v8auto, Jun 7 9:33am

Hello from old England.
I started with PN a couple of years ago. So far just in my feet/lower legs.
Usual balance problems, and tight socks feeling, but not painful, thank goodness.
However, in the last week I have had leg cramps that waken me 3-4 times a night, Mainly the instep. I am starting to feel like a zombie, sleeping so badly.
I have just looked on the forum and see recommendations to take magnesium glycinate and vit B12. I shall give those a go.
Anything else that might work?
I am 73yo, 6ft and 140lb, and not on any meds. Yet!
Thankyou.

Half a pint is more than I usually drink before bed, but I have to get up in the night anyway so I may as well make it worthwhile!
Last night, no cramps. Nearly but not quite.
The only thing I did different was to walk about 5 miles during the day, visiting a lot of private gardens that were open for viewing in a local village, and eat a slice of coffee n'walnut cake.
Perhaps I'll add cake to the meds list.

Cake? Damn! You wanna be my Doctor? I've been using banana bread with chocolate fudge frosting, but real cake? Well why not both? Envious of the five miles and the light touch.

I use a foot warmer through the night. Really helps with my nocturnal leg cramps.

Ahh, hot water bottle. Yes, I do that in the winter.
We used to have leg warmth from a cat, but she's not around any more.

Update on cramps... the extra water in the evening seems to be helping... several times it's felt as if the feet will cramp, but they haven't.
Today I'm going to the docs - for something else :{ - and will pop into the chemist for the magnesium and B12.

So, ten days on.... last week I went to the chemist (pharmacy) to see about the supplements. It's in a local town 4 miles away, next-door to the doctor's where I had an appt for a suspicious lump on my leg... falling apart, it's me age, guv.

The chemist was rammed. Queuing out of the door. Mostly oldies after their (free) prescriptions. After I came out of the docs, I looked in again, the queue was even longer.
I decided I'd just persist with the hydration and see how it goes.

Remarkably, it's gone. Sometimes my legs feel as if they might cramp, but they don't. I'm getting a good night's sleep.
Doesn't take much water. About 5oz, a quarter imp pint, in the evening as we sit and read after dinner.
Who knew...? A cure, free, from the tap in the kitchen

Well, some of you knew, so thankyou.

If anything of interest happens, I'll update, but for the moment, tottering on.
