Thank you for sharing this, though I find it kind of scary (I've been at this only 2 months and I'm tired of it!). I don't have any of the genetic indicators so I imagine my path will be a bit different but it's helpful to hear what others are doing. Also, to recognize that this is not a short or easy journey for any of us.

Simone, you have been offered encouragement, support and suggestions. I am praying for you on this journey. I don’t know your age or circumstances, but I know that feeling positive in the face of this horrible disease takes a lot of it’s power away. I had a mastectomy on May 16 and by May 30 was back to normal activities and enjoying life in this heat with no bra. That said, I am 73 and would not have made that choice if I were younger, and the fact that I had two masses in each tiny breast meant there might not be much to work with. Find people and things that make you laugh. I didn’t laugh as much 25 years ago when I had Non-Hodgkins, so the first time was a bit of a learning curve. 🙏

Thank you Library Mom, I am trying to stay strong, I get my moments. As I wrote I have stage 1 breast cancer, Surgeon advised me this is very treatable. Waiting on a date for surgery to remove the small tumor out. which is about 7MM. according to her its very small. I appreciate you writing me. I am looking for breast cancer groups in my area.. All the best to you and thank you again

My experience was a good one. Although I'm sure most would say I am taking too much risk but I chose surgery (lumpectomy, SLNB and breast reduction) only. I was stage 1 ER/PR+ and HER2 negative, IDC, low grade, 1.3 Cm tumor, clear margins no lymph node involvement. And I also waited 6 months from diagnosis to surgery so I would be covered under medicare.
Having such a positive report makes adjuvant therapy decisions tougher. For mine there was very little benefit for radiation and hormone therapy. The side affects of those treatments far outweighed the tiny benefits so I chose to go without them. Making those decisions which I am 100% confident with now were probably the most painful part of this process. Also finessing the medical system to not be totally ticked off at me not following medical direction was also quite tricky. I don't have a radiation oncologist or medical oncologist anymore. However I do exercise now and am up to 2.5 miles a day and swimming as well. My diet has not changed it was never terrible but I enjoy all the usual foods and am not obese nor do I drink.
What I did learn was that there really are a lot of super nice caring people in the medical community and in this forum as well.
Best to you and wishing you a speedy recovery!

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I am taking it one day at time, some days are not so good, but I will go on for my daughter's sake Her dad died of stage 4 lung cancer . I feel for her now that she see's her mom going thru cancer.

Hopefully all will be well, since the surgeon said my cancel is curable. Praying it us, to hopefully see my daughter become pregnant and I can see my first grandchild.

All the best to you.

My children lost their Dad in 2015, so I understand the surviving parent role. My daughter handled my cancer really well at least that's how it appeared to me, behind closed doors it may have been different. My son had a much harder time as his best friend has been killed in a car accident 5 months before I was diagnosed. He never would talk about it, but that's how he handled it so there was not much I could do.
It's been almost 4 months since my surgery and I feel great now and looking forward to all the things I used to look forward to.
The kids are also doing great, both are in love with partners and I'm going on date #3 tomorrow with a man I really like! So from some storms come rainbows 🙂

Hello! I just joined the group and I just found out last week that I'm positive to breast cancer. Tomorrow, I will have my MRI and I'm really concern, since I don't have all the details of what's stage this might be and what will happen. I'm a single mom with a 16 year old daughter and it's tough. Hope I can get the support I need and some guidance. Blessings!

Hello @joan23 it's hard waiting especially with a teenage daughter. This is the hardest part of the whole thing.

When you know more, you may have a test on your tumor called an Oncotype that will guide treatment.

Keep us posted. We have all had our own individual experiences but I hope this forum can be helpful!

When waiting I walked, watched a lot of Netflix and got a few Ativan from my doc 🙂

I am 8 1/2 years out from diagnosis if that is reassuring. I had grade 3 and other nasty stuff but my cancer was driven by hormones so medications that dealt with that were effective so far.
