New Ostomy: Any help would be appreciated

Posted by zxyoma @zxyoma, Jul 15, 2020

I’m new to this site, and new to having an ostomy. My surgery was on May 10th, (Mother’s Day). I’m still experiencing lots of leakage no matter what I try. I found a support group not too far away, however they don’t meet again until September, I’d like to talk to someone before that. Any help would be appreciated.

@dancing1

Forgive my typing fingers swollen from Raynauds 🤣

@dancing1. Thanks for your comments. I must apologize. I just found a couple of colorectal\prostate surgeons in my area. Anyway of checking them out, do you think? BTW, I'm in Central Illinois. To give you an idea of the medical service here – and we are a medical center – BCBS just canceled some of their coverage here cause we are too small.

@kenc @dancing1. In my opinion, my obgyn surgeon or staff caused my problems. We do not have a colorectal surgeon locally, and so Dr Obgyn wants to do the surgery. What do you all think?

What experience has the physician had in performing this complex surgery. This also includes the people assisting him the operating room and the post surgery staff. Also, what type of colorectal surgery is the doctor proposing?

Good afternoon. I am not very tech savey with using this "Chat" stuff. .I have some questions about my ostomy bag due to some bowel removal for a non cancerous blockage. Am I at the right place to make those inquiries?

Hi @grandmairene, I wanted to add my welcome. You are certainly in the right place to connect with other "ostomates" – people living with ostomies. Please ask your questions any time.

To help answer your first question "Primarily what are, if any, consequences of not having the procedure reversed?" I'll invite fellow members @thull @coffeebean @iamthekat @d1ane who have had a reversal and can share their experiences.

What other questions do you have Grandmairene?

@kenc From all my research, in order for the colon and a vaginal fistula to heal, an ostomy must be performed. Think I am more worried about the surgery itself – if I survive, I'll probably be in a nursing home the rest of my life. All my present problems stem from a hysterectomy four months ago.

Find the Doctor that you really trust and have faith in! That’s probably the absolute best any of us can do. I’ll keep you in my thoughts! Hoping you can find a doctor you really trust to help you! Hang in there! ♥️

@trishanna just curious, why do you think the Obgyn and staff caused your problems? If i truly felt this way, i would not go back to the same surgeon. But have you had a chance to talk with him? Just to discuss your problem now and to hear what hr has to say. Go in, very polite and assertive (not aggressive). See if it works
Let me know!
