Neuropathy & applying for Disability

Posted by valec @valec, Oct 16, 2023

Has anyone applied for social security disability due to their neuropathy pain and restrictions from it? I’ve applied and was just declined. Which I knew would happen. I’ve had peripheral neuropathy for about 13 years. I don’t sleep but maybe 3 hours. I’m on lyrica and medical marijuana in gummy form. Doesn’t help much. But I decided to apply for disability on the advise of my doctors. Who all support the decision. My balance is off. My pain is 24/7. My cognitive skills have suffered. I can’t stand or walk more than 15-30 minutes at a time. Just doing basic housework is a problem. Then there’s the side affects of lyrica which is swelling in my feet. And side affects of the gummies which are feelings of lethargy.
Just wondering if anyone has applied for disability due to their neuropathy.
Thank you.

Yeah, that's basically what I was told as well. I stopped working in Feb of this year. Not by choice, I just could not physically or mentally do it. I loved my job and would have worked there for another 5 years easy. I am 61, so once I do (hopefully), get on disability I can only stay on it till I'm 65, then it will switch over to regular retirement. Forced of course. Whatever. I just really need all the back money that they will owe me.

I cant comment on applying for disability as Im not in the States. This hasnt been mentioned yet and I do not know if it is like this there but in Canada disability does NOT pay a living wage. It barely covers rent and food. I am on disability and was approved quickly despite it being hard to get and many are declined and have to file a tribunal.
