Neuropathy: Anyone have any experience with gabapentin?

Posted by sjhedcon @sjhedcon, Mar 21, 2020

I have loss of feeling in my feet and tingling sensation. My doctor prescribed gabapentin. I read the side effects and decided not to take this med.
Anyone have any experience with gabapentin?

@pamelaz
Some people claim it reduces the number of their seizures.
It might be worth a try but I wouldn't get overly excited about it. I would ask your Neuro about it.
It supposedly helps pain and other coditions too.
If you try it, I hope it works for you.

Thanks for your response.
No other rash. But I notice him scratching his left bicep. No rash there. We do have very dry skin due to living in northern Canada and the weather just got very cold.
He stopped the CBD and took Benadryl yesterday. He is continuing the gabapentin. 300 mg in morning 300 mg afternoon and 900 mg at bedtime.
I hope your health improves and is manageable.

Good evening @christmastime. Northern Canada...... does get cold. I am in Minnesota. Also gets cold here.

I don't know if I can help with your husband's itch issues. However, it might be worth a try. After about 5 years with SFN (small fiber neuropathy), I developed serious itch flares. They began from inside my body......not from contact. My hands, arms, and legs began to have pretty severe itch episodes and I was at a loss to find out what might be the culprit.

Come to find out it might be called a "neuropathic itch". It grew worse. I ended up in the ER several times unable to cope with the severe itching. Just a few months ago I was approved for a medication called Dupixent. It is a self-injection every two weeks. No application issues and no side effects. And......for once.....no itch. None, nada. I am ecstatic and grateful to my dermatologist for pursuing this solution.

Just thought you might want to add Dupixent to the list of possible solutions.
Is the Benadryl working well so far?

May you and your husband be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Chris

I suffer.the same. Interested in responses. I was given Gabbapentin for the Nueropathy. It doesn't help with the vibration.
I'm sorry but I was happy to hear there is someone else. I was beginning to think I'm just nuts. That's how my Nuerologist looks at me for this.

Hi, I’m on gabapentin and it helps me a bit. I don’t think the rash could be from it since he’s been on it for seven months. But I’m not a doctor. I do believe that the CBD gummies could be the culprit because it’s soon after beginning taking it. I tried a spice, turmeric, which is natural and I broke out in a rash all over my chest. I know this sounds strange but I was told that olive oil would help the rash and it did. Once I stopped the turmeric and started rubbing the olive oil on my chest the rash went away.
Has a doctor ever told your husband if the rash could just be eczema? I hope he’s better quickly.

Thank you. I’ll try the olive oil. And definitely no more gummy.
The Drs never say anything about his skin, except take care of his feet because he’s pre diabetic .

I’ve been using Gabapentin for over ten years, no evident side effects. I’m not sure how effective it’s been, but my neuropathy symptoms have been relatively mild, no pain, but definite numbness and tingling.

Thanks for your gabapentin comments. I'm curious if your dosage has changed over the ten years? Thanks!

Yes. I started at 300mg twice a day, I think. Upped it to three a day because of itching problems, not because of the neuropathy.

Does it effect your face?

I was on gabapentin for years at a high dose. I never had any side effects but I kept telling my doctors I didn't think it was doing anything either. They finally switched me to Lyrica and the relief was immense! I don't have side effects from that either
