Nerve pain
On Day 12 after lung surgery and still in a substantial amount of pain. Taking Motrin / Tylenol alternating as well as muscle relaxer I do have Oxy and have NO problem taking them but I feel like I am being judged because I choose to take them. ( Even Doctor's Assistant) " most people are done taking them in a week" . I am having a lot of nerve pain which may be the reason I need them. How long did everyone take their pain meds? Should I be asking DR for different scipt for pain? I have follow up a week from tomrorow.. TIA

You should not be judged. If people do that then they have a personal problem . No one should have after surgery pain! Take what you need to feel better . If the Dr told you to take these otc pain relievers , then use them. If it is abnormal for you to still have pain , you might put in call to your Dr or his nurse . Be well and Be safe, ❤️Crystalina
@mamalinda61 , The stabbing pain that you mentioned in a different post sounds excruciating! You are correct, that no one feels what you feel. Your doctor prescribed the medications for a reason. You have them and if you get some relief from them, then you should take them. Remember that day 12 is still fairly early considering how much your body has been through.

Where is your nerve pain specifically? Is it at the site of the incision or throughout your chest?
I’m not sure if a narcotic helps with nerve pain but you may want to ask about gabapentin or Lyrica for nerve pain. That is what neurologists typically prescribe for nerve pain. I was prescribed Tramadol after carpal tunnel surgery for pain and not sure if that would be an option for you.
Topically, you can try lidocaine, capsaicin or magnesium nerve pain creams. There are also Salonpas brand lidocaine nerve pain patches you can put on localized pain areas. If you have inflammation in surrounding tissues of the surgical site, you may be able to use topical Voltaren gel.
Check with your doctors to see if these would be options you could try.
The nerve pain is in my breast and runs under my arm pit . It is not on my incision. I will be seeing surgeon next week. I have been using lidocaine patches which help but are hard on my old skin so have taken a few days off. Thanks for reply.
Sorry to here you are in so much pain. My doctor prescribed gabapentin for nerve pain . It works very good for me. I have fibromyalgia, copd, and arthritis. You take pain medication until your body heals. Take care and God Bless.
Have DR prescribe Lyrica works better then gabapentin. I use nerve relief cream called Nervive its a roll on it has lidocaine and menthol in it, doesn't sting like a cold or hot cream goes on like lotion really helps calms the nerves; Best wishes Hope you find relief.
I had similar pain after LR lobe was removed especially under the right breast. I was prescribed Gabapentin, Tramadol if needed Ibuprofen/Tylenol and Lidocaine patches. Gabapentin worked well for me, but I hear Lyrica is faster acting. Later on when pain persisted under right breast I was referred to a pain clinic and given corticosteroid injections. It took quite a few months for pain to go away completely, but I am cancer free, so don’t want to complain. I hope your pain gets better. Hang in there.
MamaLinda my worst pain is is my Right breast. I had Right upper lobectomy via thoracotomy. I def think its nerve pain. I got garbage about 12 days after surgery which helped some. I also got something called Theraworx for nerve pain. Its an OTC foam..I think it helped. I'm 3 weeks post op and slowly the pain is subsiding
