Zoledronic Acid: I need feed back for this drug please
I just went on Monday and had my first treatment of Zoledronic Acid and that night I had a very high fever and felt so very sick I wasn't aware that this could happen I read all the paperwork but I was so very sick I was shacking from being so cold the next day I called the Dr and was told if I get the high temp again to go to the ER my question is has anyone else had this happen and does it happen every time you get the treatment I'll be getting this every 6 months thank you for any and all answers

I felt awful after the first infusion - flu like symptoms for over a week and at the 2 week mark I was still having really bad night sweats. I read somewhere that the rate of infusion could make a difference, so for the second infusion I asked the nurses if they could slow it down a little, which they did (from about 20 mins to almost 40 mins). I had zero problems that time and with subsequent infusions. So whether it was my body adjusting to the medicine or the rate of infusion, it got much better after round 1. Good luck and feel better.

2 ReactionsI have heard that hydrating really well 24 hours before and after, slower infusion and premedicating (Tylenol or NSAID? Benadryl?) help. I have this in my future so thanks for the comment on the slower infusion.

I had problems where I nearly passed out during infusion so the following ones they slowed the infusion down and that helped. As far as the bone aches and feeling like a bad flu, that's part of it for some of us. If you can schedule toward the end of the week so you'll have a weekend to recuperate, it may help. I would tell my family when this was being done and they would know I'd just kind of be laying around for a while. The first time took me a week to recoup and after that a shorter period, maybe 3-4 days.

3 ReactionsI had my first Zometa infusion for bone strengthening (along with my chemo treatment) due to bone metastasis. I felt like crap for 2-3 days, extreme fatigue, queasiness/loss of appetite, bone & muscle aches, headache. Much worse than chemo side effects. I’m scheduled for a second infusion in 3 weeks, and almost want to refuse it. I know the benefits likely outweigh the risks, but I’m also hesitant to do anything that further deteriorates my quality of life.
I think my oncologist said side effects may be less with second treatment. Anyone who can comment on your experience?
Thanks!!
@live
Actually, may I suggest that you should probably see dentist before and have all dental work that needs to be done first and then be cleared by dentist PRIOR to Zometa infusion as it could make things heal slower. Check with your oncologist and dentist prior.

When will you start with treatment? What questions might you like to ask?
Does anyone has Zometa infusion? My doctor just recommend that to me.
I'd like to do some research and learn more on this drug.
Thanks.
