Need advice for surgeon referral
I am currently a mtf patient living in AZ. I have met with the Mayo Phycologist who has recommended me for gender affirming surgery. How do I go about being referred to a surgeon in MN who specializes in bottom surgery?
I could use some advice on how to navigate the "Mayo System".
Thank you
Rebecca

Hi @rebeccaaz, welcome. There are a couple of ways you can get referred to a surgeon at Mayo Clinic in MN.
1. Contact the Mayo Clinic Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic in Minnesota
https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/transgender-and-intersex-specialty-care-clinic/overview/ovc-20395546
Phone: 507-538-3270
2. Ask the Mayo Clinic Psychologist to make the referral. Are they in AZ or MN?
3. Request an appointment online or by phone http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
I would start with 1 and/or 2. If you would like to connect with others like you, you might wish to post to this discussion as well to connect with @karieanthony @bobbie4481 @keithradtke @dsjohnston53 @jeri444

Happy to try and answer any other questions. How are you doing?
Coleen,
Thank you for the information. My biggest hurdle at this point is how to go about putting a care plan together. Aside from bottom surgery I am also thinking about FFS and Voice. I am a planner and need to know who is doing what when etc. Essentially, what do I need to do? I prefer to be informed.
@rebeccaaz, I'm a planner too. 🙂
I'm confident that you'll like to team approach at Mayo Clinic's Transgender and Intersex Specialty Care Clinic in Minnesota. They will work with you to map out a care plan step by step. As a planner, it's so helpful to understand what to mentally prepare for and what to expect.
I know everyone is different, but perhaps @bobbie4481 @stargate1965z @bamharley16 or @jeri444 might jump in to share their experiences and tips as you plan.
Rebecca, as much as a plan is important, it's also key to know what the next step is. What's your next step (if you don't mind my asking)?
My next step is to talk with the Endo team in Rochester and try to get a handle on lining up bottom surgery. As I understand it bottom surgery needs to be performed in Rochester and the other surgeries can take place in AZ which I where I live. For me I already know what (bottom surgery, ffs, trachea shave, BA) is my current plan.
Thank you for the contacts.
