Naproxen 500 MG.

My Doctor gave me a prescription for Naproxen 500 MG for my back pain. After reading about the side effects of Naproxen, I'm quite concerned about taking it.

My Doctor says that I can continue taking Acetaminophen while taking Naproxen. I'm taking 6 caplets of Acetaminophen every day. Sometimes it's effective and other times not.

I'm an 86-year-old female and taking Constella ( Linaclotide) for constipation. I understand that both Acetaminophen and Naproxen can cause constipation. And I'm concerned about the side effects of Naproxen which can be serious according to what I've read about it. I'd rather not take it.

What are your experiences with Naproxen?

@lebanon100 Hi! I took naproxen for over 20 years because of my back pain. It was the only thing that actually helped when I took it together with Tylenol. I never experienced any constipation with either medication. I was concerned about hurting my liver with too much Tylenol, so I was careful not to go over the recommended dose.. The only issue I’m aware of with naproxen is that it could bother your stomach, but it never bothered mine.
I’m not able to take it now because I’m waiting for my vertebrae to finish fusing after surgery.
Good luck if you decide to try naproxen!

Naproxen 500mg in an 86 yo warrants caution, especially if taken more than a few days. If you have a pharmacist, review risks, prior medical History and current medical concerns. Naproxen is quite effective however.

Naproxen was very effective for my back pain years ago, I did not experience any constipation. I would vary my meds between Tylenol and ibuprofen too, trying to keep from overdoing any one, but the naproxen worked the best.
Eventually my body rejected all of them, but it took years.
Diarrhea and stomach pain took over, and even stopping for a few days didn’t help. As soon as I began taking the naproxen or the ibuprofen, the diarrhea started again.
Tylenol did not do anything, but it didn’t help much either, once the pain level increased.
That’s my experience, I hope this helps you.
