I have to take it twice a day for it to really work properly. I tried once a day it wasn’t sufficient after about two or three months.
I take it around 7:30 am and 7 pm.
I have never noticed a side effect from it. I started taking it while taking a lot of medicine already.
Thanks Jeff as always, any issues that you are aware about high blood pressure as being one of the side effects?
Myrbetriq didn't affect my blood pressure (I already had borderline hypertension, managed with medication, and nothing changex). Like @jeffmarc, I had to move to a double dose before it started working.
It took me from waking every 20 minutes (at the worst point) to getting up only once or twice in the night to go to the bathroom, so it was a gamechanger. Less than a year later, I was able to titrate off and keep my gains.
2.5 years of Zytiga has left me with high blood pressure that I have to take three pills for, twice a day.
Going on Myrbetriq Made absolutely no difference. My blood pressure has been quite low for a long time due to those pills and it didn’t go up a bit. 100/58 is probably The blood pressure average I get with or without Myrbetriq.
That must have been frustrating. Do you think it was the Abiraterone itself that drove up your blood pressure, or the steroid you had to take with it?
It was Abbie. A known problem with the drug is its effect on the heart. It also caused me to have 4 afib events. Three of them they just shocked me back into normal rhythm. I was on ADT for 2 1/2 years before getting on Zytiga And I had no cardiac issues at all.
One afib event put me in the hospital for four days because I had taken an antibiotic that affects the electrical system. I went into a fib and they couldn’t shock me out of it until that anabiotic had become ineffective and that was going to take four days (long half life). My pulse was 175 standing and 125 laying down for 3 1/2 days, Then on the third day they gave me metoprolol And within one hour, my pulse went back to normal.
I have done the exact same thing that caused afib, over and over, since I have stopped taking Zytiga, without any problems.
My oncologist insisted I stop Zytiga and At first, she wanted me to switch to a PARP Inhibitor, But after a few days, I realize that I would be much better off going to Darolutamide, So I talked to her and switched drugs and was now able to reduce the amount of cardiac medicine I’m taking.
A couple of things have changed as a result, however. My cardiologist had me on carvedilol As a beta blocker. Another cardiologist, I know said that he took metoprolol Whenever he felt like he might have his pulse rising, leading to AFib. I was already having problems with the beta blocker. I was on, My pulse would rise suddenly walking 10 feet.
I told my cardiologist I want to switch from carvedilol to metoprolol, and it’s made a major difference. Even if I exercise hard and feel like my heartbeat should be excessive. It’s never over 120. The beta blocker prevents it from going any higher..
Just putting in some things, I’ve learned due to these high blood pressure problems.
After an RP and Salvage Radiation left me with an overactive bladder (urgency, awake 4 x a night to void), I tried to do as much as I could to return to normal: physical therapy, bladder training, avoiding certain food/drink, etc.
After a couple of years of marginal success with these first-level treatments, I started on Mybetriq (25 mg) for a month or two with no side effects and now take Myrbetriq (50 mg) daily, in the late evening. I'm not sure why I chose the late evening - perhaps because my main purpose was to reduce my nighttime awake times (assuming that it has its greatest effectiveness shortly after it was taken). It helped reduce my voiding to 2x a night, although I have found little difference in urgency and frequency during the day. I've been on it for 9 months or so (it takes a few months to fully kick in), and plan to wean myself off of it to see what happens.
My family doctor checks my BP every few months at the renewal of my prescription. Before using Mybetriq my BP was marginally elevated, after using it, it did not change. I have no other side effects. As an aside, I have sleep apnea so I started using a CPAP machine - this reduced my nighttime voiding to 1x most nights, and my BP is now normal.
