Are brain tumors (astrocytoma or glioblastoma) hereditary?
I lost my son Michael 5 years ago with astrocytoma at the age of 30. He was an identical twin. His identical twin brother ( my son) Daniel has had many tests as he is afraid he may have the gene.
My paternal grandmother died from a glioblastoma. Our family live in fear that there may be a connection.

@sharbella, welcome. I can imagine that you and your living son worry about his being diagnosed with a brain tumor like his twin brother or grandmother.
Brain tumors like astrocytoma and glioblastoma are not inherited. However, certain rare conditions that run in families, such as neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), Lynch syndrome, Turcot syndrome and tuberous sclerosis may increase risk. You mention that Daniel has had tests. Did he see an oncology genetic counsellor?

No Daniel did not see an oncology genetic councillor. He had a brain scan that showed NAD about 2 years after his brother passed away.
It was my grandmother that had the glioblastoma my sons great grandmother.
My mother passed away with neuroendocrine carcinoma.
My father passed away with lung carcinoma.
As you can imagine our family feel like we are a ticking time bomb sometimes. Just waiting for the big C to get us.
I know a lot of cancers don’t run in families but I do my best to reassure my 3 surviving sons.

PS mikes astrocytoma was defuse and inoperable and he did live for 5 years after radiotherapy.
